4 plug socket?????

hi everyone,

I have a question, may seem a little silly, but its been bugging me for ages.

Maybe one for sparkies!!

I have a couple of 4 plug adaptors in my house, 2 with seperate on/off witches and 2 regular ones.

If I am using the one which has individual switches, if I had four plugs in it, but only 2 turned on, would I be using less electricity than if I had 4 plugged in and turned on??

I dont quite get it as they are all being powered by one plug going into the actual socket on the wall.

Also, the one which has four sockets, but does not have any individual switches, if it is turned on am I paying for 4 all of the time, or just when there are plugs in ther.

As I aid, I feel like a bit of a doughnut asking, but I have no idea.

thank

Pinky

You are paying for whatever is being used. Different appliances use different amounts of electricity too. A plug doesn't cost anything to have switched on if there is nothing plugged into it.

Imagine that the multi-plug is just a socket on the wall - it all works in the same way!

errr electricity is not like water as when the switch is turned on it doesn't just flow in to your room invisibly filling it up, you need something plugged it to draw current, this can be a television even on standby if it is a hair dryer that is turned off then you would not be drawing any electricity.

Flat long extension sockets use about 2watt when nowt on.
The fire brigade aint too keen on the three way type adaptors that plug into a wall socket. They wobble.

    Turn all the switches off.
You will definitely be charged less if you use less electricity.

I've heard it said that if you stand them upright then less electricity leaks out.

Lots of things wobble. But the fire brigade don't get very excited about them though.

I suppose if the 4-way extension has a neon light then it must use some power, granted very little and then only if power is on at the wall.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I am surprise no one has mentioned the loading with these type of plug in sockets, remember the total load should not exceed 13 amps., so make sure you are only using low wattage appliances when all four sockets are in use.
