british gas home care good alternative

when i mention to friends about bg home and how much it costs eg 27 per month they are shocked!

how ever when something goes wrong it is an exectional service.

but, is there a cheaper alternative with a comparative service???

  • that's a whole house cover at that price, not just gch, check you don't already have some things covered within your home insurance

there are cheaper, however as with all contracts read the exclusions as well as whats included
  • yes i realise that thanks,

but whats the similar alternatives if any?

I think Homeserve is the one I looked at but didn't like the exclusions.

Probably all of the energy companies offer something though I don't believe any of the others employ so many direct staff for the work. all subcontracted I think ?????

Too late for me to search, I'm off to have a sleep shortly.

I have British Gas homecare too. When my Hotpoint drier broke down and they couldn't repair it, they gave me £150 towards a new one. I had to order it from a site approved by them, and the amount lessens the older the machine is, but still a good deal.

I was just wondering if other companies offer this too, or is it just BG?
  • yes i got the hotpoint cover to, british gas offered to cover the washing machine for 8 quid a month.

thank god i have the hotpoint cover as this washer has been a nightmare. top of the range but breaks down every 2 months, and super silent lololol!!!

Basicly you are getting what you pay for. I work for BG services and always get people telling me when they changed and then did have a problem thats when it took ages to come out etc. I think the worst was an old lady called me and said she had the boiler manufacture looking after it (paid monthly) and took a week just to come out and look at it when it broke down.

I know 'I would say that' as I work for the company but I do think its true when we all say "you get what you pay for".
  • Basically with past experiences with customers BG provide a non emergency sort of cover some of there competitors have crazy T&C

The worst case scenrario I had was when someone switched to another company and then when a few things were faulty they didnt cover them as they were "non emergency"

Also some companys will Not do repairs for boilers in the summer months.

Sounds like your payment is worth the money. Last year I had BG out for plumbing(blocked toilet) where they had to cut into pipework) and electrical work- a burnt out socket that had overheated and another that was cracked and had come off the wall. Even though I thought it was a lot to pay monthly I probably paid for it 10 times over last year so will keep paying. Of course on top of that the Boiler is also checked once a year. Only problem I have is getting time off work at the moment to book an appointment!

I know people slate BG but

Know someone who took a contract out via manufacturer - companies involved Warmsure and Homeserve - problem took 5 months to resolve, only after complaints to director.

In contrast I've had 2 major repairs to bolier from BG. Have now dropped the cover down to flexi-cover where you pay less a month (£12 in my case) and £50 for repair.
If I don't need a repair this year then I will have saved money.

If you have access to the library check out Which magazine - they did an article on boiler servicing contracts a few months back.
