Is this gas usage normal for others?
Boiler on for 3 hrs this morning - 8:30-9:15am (Heating and Hot water) and then 10:30-12:45 pm (Heating only). Consumption was 5.3 units (59.26 kwh). Therefore, average usage was 1.76 units/hr. Cost was £2.19 for the 3 hrs. House never really gets very warm because of high ceilings, no doubleglazing, etc. We have 10 rads…

Heating
Am I right in thinking that for my gas central heating to radiators, the dial on the wall I use to select the temperature has a sensor in it that when the room it's in gets to a certain temperature it turns of the boiler to maintain that temperature? We tend to get home form work and while certain rooms are warm the…

back panels for gas fires
I am looking for a back panel for my flueless gas fire. In B&Q it advertises "reversible laminate" and states, "They can be used with all electric fires and most gas fires except decorative, balanced flue and flueless gas fires" Why is this so? When I looked on the reversible laminate panels in the shop a sticker said it…

Never had central heating serviced in 6 years...
So obviously it is time I did! Never had any problems until recently, it was a new build 6 years ago. Recent problems are just that the water is not working on the gas so we just use the immersion heater instead so not really been a problem but might as well get it serviced and fixed. Also the controls on some of the…

Switch heating off during the day?
I currently have my CH set to switch on for an hour first thing in the morning and then switch back on just before i get in from work. My brother seems to think its cheaper to keep the heating on all day, rather than having it switching on and off. Im out at work all day, so I dont think there is any need for it to be…

Cold calling
A query I'm hoping someone can help with. About 7.30pm yesterday someone knocked on our door claiming to be from (I think) Scottish Power, but was insisting he wasn't a salesman. He said they provide all of the actual electricity to our area (just outside of Norwich) and was wanting to check to see what tariffs we were…

Eon - final bill 16 months after switching!
Hi, any help or advice on the following would be greatly appreciated. I was contacted end of Dec ‘08 by Eon and advised my latest bill was now ready. I left Eon for Atlantic E & G in Aug ‘07 so thought this was a bit strange. Phoned and I was advised I owed them £340 to clear off last bill (due to last few bills being…

When you close your curtains on a night
if you have radiators that are under the window make sure that you tuck the curtains behind them or move the curtains up onto the window sill to make sure the heat is directed into the room and not into the window area. Has made a huge difference in my parents house and they are heatnig the room rather than the window…

British Gas failing to set up DD
I moved in to a new home in September and set up a British Gas Click Energy 6 account and direct debit. This evening I arrived home to find in the post a bill for £227 for gas! It's obvious to me the direct debit wasn't set up and now I find I'm unable to pay this amount in one go. I telephoned BG customer services and…

Advice on flushing CH
Hello, the colour of the water in my Mother's Central Heating (combi fed) is black and horrible. I guess it needs flushing. She's got a contract with British Gas who said that flushing the system was not part of the contract and would cost a massive £700. I think this is for some suppa-duppa flush. Presumably this can be…
