back panels for gas fires

I am looking for a back panel for my flueless gas fire. In B&Q it advertises "reversible laminate" and states, "They can be used with all electric fires and most gas fires except decorative, balanced flue and flueless gas fires" Why is this so? When I looked on the reversible laminate panels in the shop a sticker said it was suitable for use for all gas fires but needed a non combustiable backing when used with balanced flue and flueless fires.

Anyone got a flueless gas fire and what did you use for the back panel, obviously stone and marble are expensive and im looking for a cheaper option, has anyone used a reversible laminate back panel?

Cheers

  • I have just redecorated and removed tiles from the back of my balance flu gas fire. I also was hoping to buy a laminate panel to fit behind the fire but noticed the comments in B & Q re the use of their panels. Not wanting to spend on a marble panel (I'm due to move house this year) I think I shall put tiles on the wall. This seems to be the cheapest option.
  • we have just re-done our fireplace. after finding out the extortionate prices of back panels we decided to use floor tiles instead , looks better than the laminate and just as effective as marble, costing just a few pounds! the most expensive thing was the grout at £14.99 !
