Hello, the colour of the water in my Mother's Central Heating (combi fed) is black and horrible. I guess it needs flushing. She's got a contract with British Gas who said that flushing the system was not part of the contract and would cost a massive £700.

I think this is for some suppa-duppa flush. Presumably this can be done much cheaper?

U could get a local heating engineer out, it involves draining the system then flushing the sludge through the pipes and down the drain. They then top up the system and put inhibitor in to stop corrosion or the same thing happening again.

It certainly does not cost £700 they are talking rubbish. Surely if this is the reason your system is not working properly then this is covered in the plan.

You need to look into this further.

The plan does not cover powerflushing and they are not talking rubbish thats about the average price for a British Gas powerflush.

A local independant will charge in the region of £300 to powerflush a typical 9/10 radiator system, this involves connecting a unit to circulate water through the heating system at a much higher flowrate than usual, combined with chemicals and heat this will loosen most of the deposits in the system. These will then be flushed away.

http://www.powerflushuk.com/ have quoted £385+VAT for a power flush. (3 medium sized rads + 3 small rads)
    Anybody used them before?
    Cheers.

Whereabouts is your mum? If you can get a word of mouth recommendation from friends, family or off here you have a much better chance of being satisfied with the result.
