Confused re ET Claim Timing
Hi, I am contemplating complaining to an ET about my previous employer for two reasons: 1) they have not paid me what they owe me and 2) I felt I had no option other than to resign due to the way they treated me and the conditions under which I was expected to work. They also wanted to change my contract meaning that I…

Accepting job offers or holding out for a better offer?!
Hi all, thanks in advance for any advice/guidance. I'm currently claiming job seekers allowance, and I hope to find work soon. I have an interview for a low-paid position next week that I think I stand a fair chance of getting. However I have an interview for a MUCH better paid job the week after, which I think I would…

Can you be sacked for no reason?
Hi All, I have a friend, who is aged 76, who has worked in a company for over 10 years now as a "casual worker". The company has recently been overtaken by a new company, so my questions are: 1) What rights does a "casual worker" have? Do they have the same rights as a full time worker? 2) Can they be sacked due to their…

Paye?
Hi I started a new job in September and am very confused with regards to the tax I'm paying. The tax codes keep changing even though my P45 was sent in the first week of work. How much tax should I pay on £10392? I've used the online calculators but they vary, and as my tax code keeps varying it's hard to know for sure.…

£1bn scheme will 'provide hope' to young jobless
Yet more lip service from the Conservative Liberal evil alliance. The incentive is already there, what with minimum wage being lower - there and open for abuse by all companies, including Maccy D's etc. So age discrimination is legal. Will there be any help for other under-privileged groups, or is it, like usual, all about…

The most bizarre interview ever?
A couple of months ago I was invited to interview for a role with a leisure company. The role was to be based in their Midlands office but I was asked to travel to another office Wimbledon for the interview since that was where the hiring manager was on the day. Wimbledon was being dug up at the time and after crawling…

AAT course
Hi, I have been looking at a change of career and would like to do a AAT level 2 course for accountancy. I have looked at all different ones online but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Kaplan seems reasonable, I'm not necessarily looking to find a cheaper one but just want to make sure I'm not going to get…

As a xmas temp a breakdown is CRUCIAL in order to ascertain if…

Working links partner

I got a phone call about a job in erskine which is about an hour away by public transport. One of the bosses down there heard me declining an interview as it…

How much do I earn per hour?
Hi, Please please can someone help me settle a dispute- My employer pays us a 'basic salary' of £1675 gross per month. This multiplied by 12 is £20100. Surely this means that our annual salary is £20100? By the same token, 20100 divide by 52 equalls 386. So 386 divide by 40 (hours) is 9.66 so is our pay per hour £9.66? And…

Hi I'm in a pickle. I've been out of work over a year now after walking out the door from my last job due to massive spat over working conditions. I'm so depressed I can't even cry anymore.......
Today was the first day back after a bout of diarrhoea. I work in a hospital so I had to be clear for 48 hours before I could start back to work again. No more microwave chicken dinners for me. I've come home to find a letter dated November 22nd, posted to me from my new Section Leader, telling me that I have "breeched"…
