How long do banks keep records of bad debts?
How long do high-street banks keep records of bad debts of former customers that they have since written off and which have time-expired? In other words, for how long will they refuse to do business with a customer who has previously (more than ten years previously) defaulted on them?

My SOA
I realise from the statement below that it doesn't look like we should be in any trouble financially, but my husband has been unemployed for a month now, so I thought I'd run this past you to see if you clever folk could see anywhere else in the budget we might trim down - I think I've pretty much got it pared to the bare…

Girlfriends Debts, whats the best option?
I sat down with my girlfriend last night and we went through how much she owes on each of her 7(!) credit cards. We ended up with a figure of roughly £10k. Most of the debts were accrued purchasing and moving into her house a couple of years ago. She has her own mortgage and comfortably pays it off each month, even more so…

Help with AIC please urgent!
Hi I'm having a nightmare with this company! They keep bullying and threatening to send someone round to the house to serve court papers. Am worried sick as my mum's 80 and someone calling around for this would just about finish her off. Do AIC ever send anyone to the house, please or is it a threat? I can afford to pay in…

Why am I addicted to shopping and how can I stop?
I'm in a huge amount of debt about £20k. In June last year a family member loaned me £26k to pay of my credit cards and I promised not to spend again and to save - I'm so ashamed I just spent all the money again and have no savings. I did start saving but then spent the money. I always seem to find a way to justify my…

Alliance & Leicester - Awful Bank
Alliance & Leicester are an awful bank to be with. Got a letter last week stating that I had gone over my overdraft limit and were starting to charge me £5 a day until I brought it under it's limit. I only went over my limit because they are charging me £5 a month for being in my overdraft and £5 a month for not paying…

Bank charges confusion
I think I might not have a leg to stand on here. HSBC and I have a very tetchy relationship. I foresaw I was going to go over my overdraft limit last month so I asked them to put it up. They refused. I went over my limit and then this month got charged £50 "pre-notified charges" for going over my overdraft. This month I…

Hi, I have just received a call from my husband at work and he told me that a company who identified themselves as BCW had rang his employers number. Arrangement to Pay - Credit Record
I'll try and keep this brief. I have been waiting for today for a long time. The two defaults which (I thought) were dragging my credit record down dropped off all my credit files today as the six years have passed since default. I logged in to my "Checkmyfile" account today and found the update button ready to click so I…

Where to start with contacting creditor?
Hi, I've got my SOA done and I am close to contacting my creditors(8 credit card companies) about my debt which is £30,000 between them! I'm not sure whether to write or phone to each and every one of them with a pro-rata proposal and hopefully to freeze interest as well. Or should I contact CCS first and get their advice…

Thursday 26/3/09 What small dfw things have you done today???
:D When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym. But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress,…
