40% tax and childcare vouchers
Firstly I apologise if this is the wrong place to post this but I can't see anywhere more appropriate! I'm a secondary school teacher and my taxable pay for the year (as per my payslip, after pension, childcare vouchers, etc) is about £4,000 short of the 40% tax bracket. However, I also work as an examiner for one of the…

Quick capital allowance q.
Hello, just looking at putting a new item down as a capital allowance. Can I just check... if I use the cash basis can I put the entire amount down as an expense? Last time I had to do this years ago, you had a first year allowance and carried the rest forward for ever. Can't see anything about that on HMRC. The allowable…

Claiming a tax refund
Hi, We are becoming frustrated in trying to claim a tax refund regarding my wife. She doesn't pay tax but, due to complications surrounding her retirement, employers pension and a small annuity, PAYE tax of just under £10 was paid. No Self-employed earnings this year, declare or not...
Hi folks, I earned nothing self-employed in 2014-2015 but had self-employment in 2013-2014 and will have in 2015-2016. Do I fill my Self-Assessment purely as a PAYE earner or do I put my self-employed income as £0.00 and claim phone and some bills. Any thoughts would be welcome.....

Any way to pay for BTL costs out of this year's expenses, but in planning
...I hope that makes sense. We have a BTL which is due to make a profit this year on which I will be paying higher rate tax. I want to replace the windows but have realised that I need to go through planning so there is no chance the work will be approved this tax year. I am not likely to be paying higher rate tax next…
