I asked the following question recently: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5387415
I was self employed in my spare time between 2010 and 2013. I forgot to include expenses for a website I own and pay £100 for every year (since around 2009).
Is there a form similar to this so that you can claim tax relief on historic expenses: https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/how-to-claim ?

You can only claim from 2011/12 onwards. You are out of time for anything before that (as mentioned on your last thread), that's why the form only allows you to go back to then.0

How do you claim tax relief for expenses for previous tax years? Is there a form of dp you just write to hmrc?0

Both of your current threads indicate that you submitted a Self Assessment for 2011/12.
If that is the case then, strictly speaking, you cannot use form P87 for that year. See your own link for this.
As its far too late to amend on-line you simply need to write to HMRC and list the changes you wish to make.

If you have already sent forms P87 for any of the years you were in SA you might be lucky as HMRC may regard them as SA amendments but they could reject them as invalid.
However you have to write to them anyway so, for the years that you submitted Self Assessments, best advice is to give a list of the boxes you want to change, the figure already in each box and your new figures.
For any years that you were not in SA send forms P87.

Thanks. However, I am talking about business expenses here. I sub contracted for a few years earning about £500 per year in my free time. I filled in a tax return however I forgot to include some overheads. Is there a different form I have to fill in?
Do I have until 31st January or 1st April to make this claim for the 2011/12 year?0 -
You have until 5th April to claim. Search for "Overpayment relief" (sorry cant post links!).0

Jayson's post advices what to do for an SA year.
If you follow the link you posted your self regarding self assessment it will eventually take you to this page - https://www.gov.uk/self-assessment-tax-returns/corrections
That link also confirms what I have said before about being able to claim until 5th April.0 -

You have until 5th April as this is when the tax year ends.
Thanks. I agree that having two similar question has confused things. The other question started about both sets of expenses I.e. Employment expenses (membership of professional body - bcs) and sole trader expenses. Most of the answers targeted employment expenses.
Therefore I asked this question to target sole trader expenses. Can you confirm that:
1) the deadline for claiming missed sole trader expenses in the 2011/12 year is 04/04/26.
2) I have to write to hmrc rather than fill in a form for sole trader expenses
The accountant told me that I should be able to claim ore trading expenses if I trade again and fill in a tax return again. However, this assumes that I start trading again. Pre trading expenses go back six years apparantely.0 -

For the tax years that you completed self assessment you declare all income and expenses, whether that's employment or self employment. You need to do this in writing because it's over 12 months.
The deadline is 5th April 2016 for 2011/12 as I have said.
If there are any years where you didn't complete self assessment because you weren't self employed but want to claim employment expenses then it depends on the amount of expenses as explained in the link your posted, if over £2500 you need to do self assessment of under £2500 you need to do P87.0
