I applied for a Monument card...and got it.
As most people on here will know, they are a sub-prime lender but even so, I didn't think I would be accepted as I have a default on my record and that is a lot worse than missing the odd payment here and there. They gave me a £3500 limit and I did a balance transfer of £3400 with a 2.5% fee (£85). This is at 0% until…

Egg - Bad advice in New Woman mag
I bought New Woman mag this week, which contains an 'article' called 'Money Saving Tips your Dad Didn't Tell You', or similar. I read this once, and then pointed it out to my boyfriend, and it was only on this second reading that I noticed the 'sponsored by Egg' small print. Among the advice given was 'Who wants to be a…

Barclay Card Cancellation Process
My girlfriend rung up Barclays this morning to pay off her remaining balance & requested that her card now be cancelled. She also asked if they could send her a letter confirming that the card had been cancelled. Barclays told her that they would not send her such a letter & she would instead get a statement showing a zero…

Just wondering, as my last statement was £914.17 to be paid by march 22nd. on 2 march I paid £200, 17th £100, and 21st £615. The dates mentioned are the dates on my statement that the money has reached the account. So I have paid this off, but incurreed interest. Have MBNA changed to an Egg type system where you have to…

Capital One Balance Transfer Deal
I saw the Capital One 0% Balance transfer until Aug 07 deal on TV last night. Whilst it mentioned a 2% transfer fee, I thought this wasn't too bad for the peace of mind of not having to worry about clearing the balance until late next year. Am Imissing something? Is there a hidden catch in this offer?

First Direct
Not a very good news. Just checked my credit expert report and the following message appeared:- If you have an account with First Direct, you may get an alert about this account from CreditExpert in April or May. Don't worry – it’s actually good news. Banks are providing new data to Experian, the credit reference agency…

Underhand Tactics from MBNA?
How can MBNA justify raising their monthly interest rate on my Platinum Visa account from 1.2408% to 1.8735% - a rise of over 50%? I admit that I received a letter in January informing me of the increase but, because it merely stated the new rate as 1.8735%, I didn't realise the implications. Whilst it is true that I am…

Barclaycard Platinum limit?
When I enquired about applying for a Barclaycard at my branch, the personal banker (who happened to be the Branch Manager) told me that because of my account history, I was very likely to be accepted for a Platinum card, but said couldn't tell me what limit I would get. Does anyone know what sort of limits they are issuing…
