Nationwide unknown CREDITS
Both my NW accounts have credits of £3227 this morning. I haven't yet managed to get through to them to report this. The phone line puts me on hold for 10 minutes, then rings and cuts off; the Chat button simply says "Connection unavailable" Is this a general glitch? In passing, why do Nationwide hate communicating…

New HSBC £150 account switch
According to https://www.hsbc.co.uk/current-accounts/promotions/advance-promotion/ switch with "with at least 2 Direct Debits or standing orders" is required. I wonder if "any" standing order (set up by myself, to my another bank account) on switched account works?. Does anyone have any experience?

Bad Experience with First Direct Foreign Payment
I know Martin lauds First Direct for its customer service but I have had a different experience. I opened an account with them as they offer online payments to the country of Georgia where wife comes from, which my existing bank (Barclays) does not do. A few payments went through OK but then one didn't arrive and after…

Depositing cheque in a foreign currency to a UK bank account
What is the most efficient way of depositing cheque in a foreign currency? I am in a very fortunate position that a recently deceased relative has left me a substantial sum of money in his will. The estate has now been settled and the solicitor acting for the executor has advised me that they will send the sum via a cheque…

Santander debit card contactless limit
Following an MSE email about setting contactless card limits to less than the new £100 limit, I logged onto the mobile app to try to do this. As there is no obvious section covering cards limits I started an online chat only to keep getting the answer that only MasterCard limits can be changed online. I did more research…

Joint Bank Accounts, Whose Money?
In the earlier days of my elderly father's cognitive decline (vascular dementia) we decided it would be wise for me to become a joint bank account holder on his accounts whilst he still had mental capacity. He is now 97 and although he has mostly lost capacity for managing his accounts he is still able to express some…

HSBC Opening basic savings account
My elderly father banks online with HSBC, I want him to move most of his money to a savings account that will show when he logs on to his account, so that just in case the worst happens they will only clear out a small amount, via Amazon/Ebay. This should be very easy to do online, however when we logged in and went to…

Nationwide secure messaging facility
As per the title, has this service been discontinued? There is now one of those robochat Bots that just seem to send you into an ever-descending spiral until you either leave or it cuts you off. I really don't want to be hanging on a phone for an hour just to query why the same transaction has appeared twice on my C/Card…

BANKING AND THE ISLE OF MAN
Me and my husband are planning to move to the Isle of Man next year, so I contacted our bank (Barclays) to see if we could transfer our account when we move, and we were told "No" apparently we would have to open a new account over there. I can't really see the reason why. As far as know the Isle of Man is a British Crown…
