Closing RBS account
Hi Whenever I've closed a bank account before I have done it over the phone. I want to close my RBS current account and it says online it has to be done in a branch with ID and PIN. Is there any way around this as their branches are not at all convenient for where I live! Thanks

Why are people here quick to defend the 'rights' of the banking companies?
Even when it is evident that the customer clearly isn't at fault or otherwise committed any wrongdoing? For example, I bet that if there was a story where somebody had a prolonged stay in hospital of a month or more due to being in a coma, and their income stopped, causing direct debits to bounce or take their bank account…

When switching bank accounts you are usually asked to provide the 16 digit debit card number of the "old" account. If the debit card for the "old" account has never been used could this cause a switch to fail?
