coventry building society closing debit accounts

hi had a letter today from september my debit card with change to a normal card ie can't pay chip and pin etc can withy draw cash only.
as its no good to me which alternative banks offer a better account for my needs to have my wages payed in pay for things online etc ?.

Yes, Coventry are members of the Current Account Switching Service, so open a new account elsewhere (switching incentives are available from some) and get the new bank to initiate the switch.

do you mean that they are withdrawing their full current account?

nowadays a current account really needs a debit card, that can be used for purchases, not just a cash card -- although i can't remember the last time i made a debit card purchase, it's good to have a current account card in my pocket as a credit card back up.
