Received a letter today from the Coventry Building Society stating that as from September my money manager(debit card) account will no longer have debit card facility, my account will be a cash card only. I will not be able to use my account to purchase in store or online from September. My current direct debits will still be processed as normal but will not be able to set up other payments that go directly from my debit card like Netflix/online shopping etc. . I have two accounts with them the other is a cash card only account which I use for my savings. I have been with them for years, now having to look to to move my accounts quick (yes i'm taking my saving account with me too) as I won't have the freedom to pay with a debit card. Anyone else use the Coventry in the same situation.

Not had that letter yet. Such a shame as never had a problem with the account.
They have also stopped the Coventry first account so cant open that one
I wont close my account as have most of my money in various accounts.
    Very disappointed to hear this

Surely there's no need to get stressed over this. Things don't stay the same for ever. It may be that the introduction of the requirement for two factor authentication of payments throughout the banking sector would just not be worth implementing for Coventry BS.

There are plenty of places offering (free) current accounts, many of which are easy to open online, probably with more facilities available than for Coventry BS. It's just time to move on.

Dont deny that your right . Guess just used to the service. It's no hassle. Probably not worth the expense given what would be their small debit card numbers

fwiw jewels you might want to retain an account with them, with £100+ left in, to maintain your long-standing membership of the society. that way you have the right to vote, and perhaps one day the Coventry will demutualise or in some other way pay out a windfall to us members/owners.
