Money transferred into my account - from where?
Hi Can anyone advise me? I have a NatWest account and in June 2006 £7,500 transferred into my account with a european reference no. It's an account I only use twice a year and this amount is still in. Can I transfer this money to a higher interest account at NatWest? Or is this unlawful? I have not been into the branch to…

Speeding up cheque clearing times and online payments
Does anyone know what is happening about speeding cheque clearing times and the time it takes an Internet payment from a UK bank current account to reach its recipient? In November 06 the banks - through the Payment Systems Task Force, led by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) - announced that faster times would apply from…

Should i have given my 'security' code?!
I have just got off the phone with India ( ) after paying the balance I owed on a 'buy now pay in 6 months' TV set! I rang the automated helpline for Edge, who deal with the finances, got put through to a representative, and paid the amount in full. I provided my full card number, expiry date, and 3 digit security…

Lloyds Overdraft
Hi all, Warning here! 3 weeks ago i got a letter asking me to renew my overdraft verbally or they would take it away. I called and got this renewed for another year. Today i found my £1500 overdraft has gone, there is no record of my call and they wanted to only give me £700 back. I eventually got them to agree to £1400…

International cheques
I'm off to Australia next week with my kids. I've paid for the trip on a 0% interest credit card, and I know that my mother is going to help pay for the trip. Am I ashamed? No, cos its the only way she gets to see her grandkids, as the trip is too much for her, and they aren't really old enough or sensible enough to travel…

Updated 2 September 2008 (Comments in the discussion may relate to earlier incarnations of this information) After the huge '10p tax row' in April, the Government upped everyone's income tax personal allowance (the amount you pay no tax on) from £5,435 to £6,035 to make up for it. Banks failed to switch Direct Debit
Hi, On opening a new current account [1] I opted to have all the Direct Debits from my old bank [2] transferred across (it was just a case of ticking a box on their application form). A credit card [3] bill that I've always paid in full by DD, however, has been returned as unpaid. Apparently they had tried to collect from…

A&L Premier 21 - 10% AER
Have been asked to recommend an account for a 16 year old. Best one I can find is the A&L Premier 21, 10% AER. Sounds too good to be true. Is only on first £ 1000, but even so, great rate and opens up access to a 10% ISA. Any catches on this current account that I can't find in their T&C's ? EDIT: Scratch the ISA, drops…

Who uses cheque guarantee card these days?
... and what makes HSBC Maestro Card seems like a black AMEX card to some people (because it's relatively hard for certain people to have it). I've been recently given a Maestro debit card with 100 pound cheque guarantee feature from HSBC as part of my student account upgrade. I don't think I'll ever get to use the card to…
