Should i have given my 'security' code?!

Mods, if this is in the wrong place please feel free to move it, I just couldnt find a more suitable area!

I have just got off the phone with India ( ) after paying the balance I owed on a 'buy now pay in 6 months' TV set! I rang the automated helpline for Edge, who deal with the finances, got put through to a representative, and paid the amount in full. I provided my full card number, expiry date, and 3 digit security pin! I was a bit apprehensive doing this, but thought, you give this information to companies when making online purchases so it should be okay! Now I'm slightly worried! Not from the fact that I spoke to 'India' persay, but rather the fact that I spoke to an actual person, rather than provided details to a computer. He could have easily noted my details and could be buying TV's of his own right now!!!

Was this the right thing to do, or are you NEVER to give that security number to a human on a phone?! Should I contact my bank and tell them?!
