Compensation for Bad Service

After a month of phone calls and letter writing, my bank has agreed to refund out of pocket expenses for the ridiculous run around they've given me re a new bank card. They have also offered a compensation fee on top and asked me to 'state my amount'. Anyone any ideas on what would be appropriate for 4 lots of rubbish service in a row - by the customer services department themselves!

    Whos the bank ?
    Brief outline of problem/s
    Time scale ?
  • Thanks.

The only card I now use, my switch, was duped and Natwest had stopped my card. I found out in front of 2 friends at a supermarket till when it wouldn't let me buy my dinner. I sorted out a new card there and then. A week and a half of queuing in banks with my passport for money and still no card. Phoned and they told me one hadn't been ordered. Another week of queuing in banks, missing cheap flights, not being able to do a web-shop, not being able to buy mothers' day gifts over the web and stuff like that - inconveniences that were costing me hours out of my very busy day which I had to replace by working late. Just a string of real inconveniences you never have to worry about usually which ate time and cost us money in travel, lost bargains etc. A week later, STILL no new card. I call and they tell me that the first one was ordered, but had somehow been cancelled, but that the second one hadn't been ordered. So I order a THIRD card. Can't have it biked to my home or my work - even though I'd say it would have been the least the bank could have offered as a courtesy. A week later, get my new card and the letter says i don't have to change my pin. Go to use my card at the weekend - pin doesn't work. We have no money for the weekend and for the umpteenth time this month have to borrow from neighbours. Wait another week for pin. Now have everything, but it's been about 5 weeks of hitting my head against a wall. People in customer services did not listen. Did not give a flying monkey's.

Out of pocket , hopefully you have a record of how much and that`s what they will pay
As for compo for bad service , hassle etc , well , how longs a piece of string ? perosnally i would mention the figure of £200-250

But perhaps as youre hoping someone on here can help you further with that

  • Thanks for your help. I have got a record of the money lost and the hours - and I mean hours queuing and I'll claim them back. I was going to leave it at that, but I've decided to be tougher. They've been tough on me many a time!

Figures on these types of things tend to £10-£25 unless you have suffered real financial loss and can evidence it.

That sounds a bit mean for what the op has been through?!
I received £30 off RBS (same group as Natwest) just because my local branch wasn't open at a time listed on their website and I had made one wasted 10 miles round trim based on that incorrect information.

Personally? I'd leave them and find another provider.

£200 is certainly achievable if you go about it the right way.

If you think you genuinely have enough ammo to interest the banking ombudsman then threaten them with it. They don't want you going to the Ombudsman as it costs them regardless of the result.
  • claim the out of pocket for what you have actually lost then ask for £50-thats a rounded up bank charge and then leave!
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!
  • Thanks all for your advice. From beer to £100's of pounds - fantastic! Think I'll opt for something in between. I especially like mirroring their own bank charges - simple but brilliant.
