Transferring money to other banks
What are the ways of transferring money from one account to another account with a different bank besides carrying cash, cheques, using the telephone, internet or paying for the CHAPS service? This is not for regular payments, but just some occasional or one-off transfers.

HSBC refusing to investigate fraud claim.
Hi there. About 6 months ago my debit card was cloned on several occassions and I had trouble obtaining my money back. Eventually I did get a refund as a 'gesture of goodwill' but was told they would no longer accept any fraud claims in the future. On Friday I checked my account and noticed a transaction that was not mine.…

Interest Rates
Do banks need to tell you when they're lowering their interest rates? I bank with smile and have a c/a and ISA with them. The c/a was 3.05% and is now 2.78% with no communication from the bank, I only found out due to looking on the home page of their website. The ISA was 5.75% and is now 5.5% again with no communication.…

Royal Mail - Bills Online
I have just discovered Bills Online by Royal Mail. The website contains very little information so you have to sign up to really understand how it works. It operates very much like Egg Money Manager but has reminders for bill dates. If they can add a few more banks this would be an excellent tool, espescially as you don't…

Fortunately I've just about completed moving my account from smile to someone else paying a far better rate anyway - I got fed up with smile a few months ago as I was still only getting…

Slow Alliance and Leicester
In the summer 2007 I finally plucked up courage to leave HSBC whom I had been with for 11 years and had no complaints with apart from their very annoying insistance on using overseas call centres, and I joined Alliance and Leicester Premier Direct. I chose this account following recommendations on this site and because…

A&L - banking on New Years day
I have an A&L commercial account. For BACS transfers, you have to specify the date that you want the payee to receive the money (as opposed to most banks which ask merely for the date you want it to leave the account). The bank then determine the date that the money has to leave the account in order to reach the payee on…
