Jesus TCOD I didn't realise you had gone through so much. Sounds horrendous. Surely surely things can only get better from now on?!?! I totally understand your attitude now. Scary stuff xx

I don't think it's that bad. I know there's far worse but I just didn't and obviously don't deal with it that well. Need to pack it in. Am going to go back and edit posts as they look really pity partyish and well...just and really! :) i'll get over it. Lol. Thank you all though. I'd go mad without here and you lovely ladies. :)

At the mothercare event yesterday they said grobags should only be used when the baby is over 8lbs. Under that and their arms aren't big enough to stay in the holes and they could wiggle under the fabric and cover their nose/mouth. I asked OH and he thinks they said to use blankets until the baby is that weight.

If you intend to not use grobags they said in the summer to use a blanket and a sheet, spring and autumn use 2 blankets and a sheet and winter use 2 blankets and 2 sheets. Obviously over the baby and not under. They also said if you fold over the sheet/blanket it will count as 2 layers.

TCD, I'm sorry you are going through all this.

Maybe try to think of hospitals as places where the problems were solved, not just where they were found. I go past the Marsden hospital and am sort of happy to see it as that is where my cancer was removed!

Actually I had terrible times at another hospital (The Lister) where I had the C bomb dropped on me, and where I was told to give up on pregnancy - get a hysterectomy and start to think about surrogacy. They were bad days... but they are in the past. Now things are good, and I wouldn't be at this good place without those bad places. I really believe that!!

Despite those days, I can't wait to be able to send both of those doctors a picture of my lovely little boy in a few months!! Not in a 'You were wrong' way, but just because I know they would be so pleased for me after all this time. They were all good doctors just trying to be realistic with me. Obviously not aware of how stubborn I am at getting what I want!! :)

God I am so freaking out about what I need to buy. We had this massive like MAHOOSIVE family wedding last week in Italy and I think we were always in our heads 'once the weddings over then we will crack on...'

Well the wedding is now over, and we are FREAKING OUT over what we need. Feel absolutely clueless. Only have 4 x bottles, steriliser, and some newborn nappies... other than that...

Still I sorted out borrowing a moses basket stand today (WHY OH WHY do they sell the stand and basket separately - how annoying). Just need to get the basket now.

Hopefully at weekend will start the decorating...

Sorry this is a bit of a random babble of panic!

Relax! I went about it by thinking of
how to transport baby (car/ sling/ pram),
where to put baby to sleep (crib, carry cot, moses basket, cot bed, blankets, grobags etc.),
where to put baby down (bouncer, swing, babynest),
how to feed baby (bf, ff- bottles, steriliser one tin of powdered milk-in case baby doesn't like that brand),
how to dress and clean it (several onesies, vests, scratch mits, cardies etc & cotton wool, nappies, think about what if anything you want to put on its skin) and
    safety (monitor, thermometer)
    Some nice things (toys etc.)

I've probably made a massive glaring omission in there and baby tcd won't be impressed but basically start from the bare minimum you think you'll need according to your lifestyle and add to it from there... It is totally overwhelming though! But fun too. :)

Oh - you remind me though. There is one person I don't think I could forgive, but lucky for her I don't know who it is!

I was woken up from a general anaesthetic for one of my egg collections, and while still groggy, and without my glasses on (I am totally blind) someone told me that there were 8 eggs, but my cervix was blocked up and the cycle was going to be cancelled. And then left me. In shock, groggy and confused, crying and not able to get someone to give me my glasses.

Got back to the room a mess and DH couldn't work out why I was crying so much. I didn't totally know myself as you only half remember things when coming too from a GA, and are hyper emotional I think. Then the nurse came in to tell me all the next steps, but I said it's been cancelled, but she knew nothing about it so went through everything anyway with me crying. Total thing was a shambles!

Seriously. You're all so lovely! I'm blaming the hormones for the little cry that my eyes just had! Thank you all. T2D- you're right, those things got me here. Not in the way yours did but definitely as part of getting here. Just need to adjust my thinking and realise that control is just a terrible illusion! I remember being at school and (the same way my brothers gf is doing now...) mapping out my future- uni, career, house, married, 4 kids etc. and the ages I'd do it by- I should have been a senior reg by now with 2 kids, according to ludricrous 15 year old self. Needless to say man plans world laughs! :)

    Thank you all. Xxx

Once you get going it gets easier. Boots do a starter kit for a new baby for £12 which I thought was a good start. And you are 50% towards somewhere to sleep. Nappies are sorted, and the 24 hour tesco sells milk and bottles if the boobs don't work!!

There is plenty of time. Maybe try to get one thing a week - in person or online. I suspect I will have FAR too much by the time this baby arrives.

I have a future based question.

I will be going back 4 days a week (assuming more of my post isn't cut - the day I'm dropping wasn't a choice but cut funding. Still made a decision for me.)

Therefore DH will be working full time a minimum of 90 min commute one way. So childcare falls to me, plus running the house during the week.

My mum has kindly offered to do one day and will come the 40 mins to our house for this.

I will have one day a week myself.

That leaves 3 days. DH has asked his parents. They were not keen (umming and ah-ing) and have now said yes, one day.

Both sets of parents would need to do term time only as DH will be a teacher so holidays are mostly covered.

Dilemma for me is in laws would want me to bring DS to them. Means packing car (solo - 30 mins including getting all stuff together, including mine for work), getting DS ready, putting him in car, driving 30 min minimum to theirs, dropping him off (15 mins?), driving to my work (30 mins minimum), working 8-4 and then doing it all in reverse. Seems to me (and you can tell what I'm thinking) that kind those this offer is, leaving the house at an earlier hour plus having to pack all the stuff seems daunting. Am I being an ungrateful princess? Know this is my choice but woukd like to know if it sounds particularly choosey or precious. As someone who has never dropped a child off at childcare would it take as long as I am thinking to do this at theirs as it would at a childminder or nursery (am hoping to find one near us, not 30 mins drive away like in-laws)?
