Having not had much sleep over the past 4 days I am trying to get my head around the finer details. I don't think I can claim, but would like someone more awake than I to confirm.
Night Flight from Washington DC -IAD - to Manchester UK. in 2012 - cancelled (staff no-show-no proof just over heard at counter and on the flight we ended up on ) United Airlines.
As a result of this a pram was damaged, nintendo DS lost too. - Different story of claim there!
I missed a friends wedding we had confirmed to go to and could not use the prebooked train tickets connecting to the flight landing in the uk- the airline did put us up over night, giving us food vouchers for the hotel (expensive food and not enough for the 4 of us) and on the same flight the following evening.
It's such a mess I really don't know where to start!
As I see it though United isn't EU so doesn't count? Or do I need to discover which of the united lines were used?

You will not be able to claim as your flight was more than 6 years ago, this being the legal time limit by which you can commence a legal claim.

Thanks for the quick reply Centipede. I was under the impression I could claim as it was post-February 2005, as per the article in the MSE email?

    Good Morning

I was reading this with interest as remembered we were delayed when we visited Turkey in 2007, having checked the flight status website this was confirmed, a delay of 8.5hrs, due to a mechanical fault and no back up aircraft available,
Only problem I can see is we flew with XL, who have since gone bust, I think I know the answer but does this mean I am not able to make a claim?
Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated.

As encouragement, I would like to say several years ago my Easyjet flight was cancelled at midday, due out of Luton at 5pm for Malaga. Put a claim in, and they pulled every trick in the book to evade paying, but made mistakes and paid up 12 days before the small claims court date.

You need to know why the flight was cancelled, so ask them immediately. Also its a big help to have the details of other cancelled passengers, because the airline will say they emailed you before the 14 days limit. So if you have reached the airport queue swap details.

At the time I could have engaged a company working from Holland who specialised in these claims, and they had full details of all cancelled flights together with the reason, and you must know why, to determine if they have a valid exemption. The company charged 25% of the value of the claim. Sorry I no longer have any details for them.

    Hope this helps.

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum but received Martin Lewis' newsletter and was on a flight back in November 2005 that was delayed for 10 hours by a British airline. It seems I can claim some money

I keep all my travel bookings filed away so have paperwork

Can I still claim the 400 Euros, it was myself and my wife plus 3 kids who were travelling with me.

I've read all the forum rules and promise to be a good forum person!

Notice (or Letter) before Action example can be found here:

I do mean small claims court when I state legal proceedings.

Thank you Centipede. Someone on another forum mentioned a Letter before Action to me but they stated that it cost money to do? Looking at that I can just copy that word for word and change the relevant bits...

I've had to take out your link as it won't let me reply seeing as I'm a newbie.

If the airline was United, then you cannot claim for delay or cancellation compensation. See my response to mitch84 above.
Thanks Centipede100, and for helping all the others on here too :kisses3: you are a star.

That airline was acquired by BA so any claim would be made on BA as the owner of that former airline.

    Thank for reply:T

I refer you to the response I gave to another poster in post #2317 above.

Thanks-so does that make you more expert than Martin Lewis? Who do I believe. Is he the expert or you?

My sister and her family also had a flight cancelled going to Ibiza from Bristol in summer 2010 and she is interested as well

I''ll ask my brother in law who is a Solicitor what he thinks about both flights and ask him to have a read about it. He's staying with us at the moment .
