So Sky saw BT's new prices (due January 2013) and decided to lead instead of follow.
Now, with the exception of line rental being 95p/month cheaper, connection charges and per minute charges for non-inclusive calls will cost exactly the same.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I can never understand people who will not do the sensible thing and opt for BT's free evening and weekend scheme and then use 1899 for daytime calls. The rates for calls charged per minute (plus connexion) by Sky and BT are absurd. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0

I think I still get a reduction for unlimited broadband based on having Sky Talk as well. Post increase, my tariff will be £14.50 line rental + £7.50 broadband unlimited. I wonder if there's now a better option to move both away (my contract coincidentally runs out then anyway).0

There is one way to beat the Sky phone line rate increase! If you live in a Virgin Media area move to one of there Internet only packages and then migrate your land line over to voipfone Which costs £2 a month!
Yeah you have have to buy some IP phones but in the long run its worth it and they have alot of features for free.
Cheers
Paul
P.S And no i dont work for Voipfone I use them for my business.0 -
Unfortunately the only options for me are Sky or TalkTalk. Certainly not getting Sky TV to save a couple of quid a month on broadband though.slnkydonkey wrote: »There is one way to beat the Sky phone line rate increase! If you live in a Virgin Media area move to one of there Internet only packages
IIRC broadband only is same price as with a phone line. (But obviously not if you make chargeable calls).Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -

No its not the same for example if you take there basic upto 30meg package its £22.50 with no phone and if you want a phone the price goes up to £28.40.
You could get the internet only package for £22.50 then get a voipfone number for as little as £2 is £24.50 a month so saving £3.9 a month and getting alot of free services for free. You also have alot more control via logging onto there webportal so you can disable and enabale services at a click of a button which is a lot easier than trying to phone a call center in India to do the same thing.. trust me ive been there.0 -

If you factor in all the charges its cheaper to take the phone ( weekend calls) and the 30 mb broadband over an 18 month period. Then it is to take broadband only over 18 months.
Plus this can be reduced further by taking line rental saver.

Could be used in conjunction with http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php using freephone access number for cheaper geographical Peak/ Weekday calls /0845/mobile/and intl calls
No need to buy ip phones.Plus £57 cashback from TCB. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/virgin_media/0 -
So i can cancel my SkyTalk with Broadband for no exit fee? why is that not in the letter!
I only signed up about 2 months a go too!0
