  • For a 17" laptop it's a good price - apparently decent build quality too - Acer CS is pretty dire so I hear so may be a deciding factor...
Should play The SIMS ok but probably not any of the latest games

Have a look on Dell at the Vostro 1000 range too - drop the warranty to 1 year, upgrade the screen and choose the 6 cell battery - £339 pre delivery - can haggle for free delivery if you call them....

I'd agree about Dell. If you need a 17inch screen, Dell do the Vostro 1700 - its under the Small Business section of their site (just put your own name in when prompted for business name)

It can be got for £704 delivered with the same spec...
  • ...for a 17" screen and decent spec you'd be hard pushed to beat that Acer price though...

Did you read my post above?

The Dell is £707, the Acer is £799, both 17 inch screens, almost identical specs (the dell doesnt suffer from having a built in webcam) - and i wasnt that hard pushed! :rolleyes2

In fact, arguably you could have a decent spec'd Vostro 1700 (which has a 17 inch screen as standard) for £505 delivered, if you check out their site.

Check out www.dmxdimension.com for links to the best Dell deals by the way.

    ....that's why I posted!!
...I repeat....you'd be hard pushed to beat the spec of the Acer 17" 7520....the Vostro is arguably better but significantly more expensive...

Am very worried about windows vista and how much memory it uses so am wondering if I need a bigger memory what do you all think ....and thank you all very much for helping me, I am really grateful honest!

  • 1gb is minimum for Vista and should run ok (from first hand experience)
2gb would obviously be better - use Crucial for a cheaper upgrade option the Dell or whoever you buy from (eg. IIRC Dell would charge £80 to upgrade to 2gb - Crucial would be ~£50 plus you'd have existing to sell on!)

You said the Acer was £799, I was pointing out that it was in fact £399. What's your point?
