How To Stop Mosquito Bites??

My parents are due to go to Cyprus soon, but my Mum always seems to get bit by mosquitos. She has practically tried everything to prevent this from happening. She is starting to dread going away again as last time she had a SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to the bites and ended up having to go to the hospital, where staff originally thought that she'd been involved in a motor bike accident!! Just wondered if anyone else suffers like this and if so what remedies do they know about/use??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

I believe neem is a very good mosquito repellent. If you want advice about neem, Google neemgenie (based in wolverhampton) and give him a ring. He is very knowledgeable and will undoubtedly be able to help.0

Your poor mum, I know how she feels. I'm sure they wait for me to get off the plane and follow me to my hotel :rotfl:
1) They are supposed to hate the smell of Brewers Yeast, start taking the tablets a week before you go and for the duration of your holiday.
2) Avon Skin-so-soft bath oil, this is supposed to work as they hate the smell of this too.
3) Tie a Bounce tumble drier sheet on your handbag or trouser loop, again, they don't like the smell.
4) Get to the local supermarket and buy a bag of Citronella tea-lights and put them around the hotel room and balcony. If we were sitting out at night we had them under the table and on top.
5) There is this stuff you can get from Boots, its called Jungle something or other but beware, this stuff is so strong, it melted my nail polish :rotfl:
I have so many holidays spoiled by these little blighters that i'll try anything. They always seem to get me on the first night too, so now I keep covered up and after a few days they don't seem to bother me.
I hope your mum has a bite free holiday. :T0 -
I take Brewers Yeast when I am away, and it really does work!
In case of an allergic reaction, I would take some antihistamines with me. It may be possible to take these in the lead up to the holiday in the same way that you would for hay fever, or just when required. Your GP would be able to prescribe some prescription strength tablets, and advise how best to take them.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Mozzies don't like you if they can smell Vit B - so take for a few days before you go and then during your holiday. It really works also.0

Try taking garlic tablets / capsules before you go away and during the stay, these really work as well, I swear by the Avon body oil as well, Avon really should promote this in their summer section as it is fantastic."Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0

can anyone confirm which fragrance of the avon oil is best as there are several.
is it soft and fresh?
thanks in advance0 -
Avon cant, confirm, although its the woodlands, as it is not a proven repelent (although even the army use it apparently)
As our nurse said, why ruin your holiday based on a rumour. Use the proper stuff.
Anything with DEET in it works.
We used 50% DEET formula jungle stuff spray, bought online, just google it, and my wife who normally gets slaughtered, had a trouble free time in GOA0 -
I usually get utterly savaged by mozzies, and I have used (just to try) the Johnsons baby oil GEL
this is particularlly good as an after sun anywasy, very cooling. Seems to be so thick the mozzies cant get through. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Hiya divadee:wave:
You know the SAS use it? Are you the first female SAS recruit then? Of course, you can't confirm it can you.;)
On a more serious note, the Avon Dry Oil Body Spray (product code 25742) in Soft & Fresh fragrance is £5 per 150ml bottle. If you get hold of an Avon catalogue, they might be on offer 'any 3 for £6'.;)
The Avon website address is www.avon.uk.com
