Yorkshire Bank

Hello Everyone,
Im new to this site and can only say how fantastic it is. Im currently in the process of working through bank statements and i am amazed at how much this bank has taken from our account, one small mistake last year ended up costing us around £300 and im sure the bank were grinning when we told them we couldn't pay up. As we have all bank statements relating to the last six years is it advisable to go ahead and contact our branch with the letter on this forum? Any advice anyone gives is very much appreciated, thanks in advance! ;)

Just a quick question, a friend asked me to help with this seems he has been charged between £4 and £8 a day (ALOT of times) for unauthorised o/d, he can claim this cant he?? Im pretty sure he can but just need to make sure.

I did my mums Halifax and Capital One but she had no such charges so im not certain

    TIA

  • Yes, when drawing up your list/spreadsheet of charges mark against these ones what they refer to.

Hi everyone, I have recently started the process to reclaim charges from the yorkshire bank. My account for the record is overdrawn but it is now closed and i am slowly paying them back. Anyway, i am at the ask for my money back step and i have recieved today a quite lengthy letter explaining all the charges to me, what they were for and why and also saying that they had a regulary updated tariff of charges and it is up to me to manage my account properly etc etc and basicly they are not going to refund my money. Also they sent the addressing a complaint leaflet with it. I know the next step now is to threaten them with court, the thing i`m worried about is if that don`t work too and i end up having to do that, i havnt got he money to cough up if it all goes wrong etc. Any advice please would be most appreciated.

    Thankyou in advance

If you follow the instructions, it's unlikely you will actually end up in court. The vast majority of those who pursue all the charges get them back. It's likely they will pay up after you have filed the claim but before the court date.
  • All these letters before court are scare tactics. I am about to issue my MCOL claim. Please read all of Martins advice on here and also go over to the Consumer Action Group forum there is thread there for Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank and SUCCESS stories.
  • Hi everyone

Am really glad to see other people trying the Yorkshire Bank too - there do not seem to be many of us!

I sent my prelim letter on the 1st and got a 2 page response today which sounds pretty much like the rest of you.

So - we go for issuing proceedings next - is that right. The second letter seems to relate to them not having responses - which they have!

So issue next or another letter?

Send the next letter informing them that if they don't settle, you will issue a court claim without further notice.

The template for this is in Martins article.

    Hi Folks,

I'm in charge of reclaiming my hubby's bank charges from the Yorkshire bank.
To say this has been a difficult task is an understatement!
To begin with we had to go through the financial ombudsman just to get his statements & this whole process has now been going on for 4 months!

    My question is.........

(this is 1 which i have not seen on here before) After paying £10 & finally receiving all his bank statements, we've issued the 1st letter asking for his money back, the reply to this however is somewhat strange!?!?
    Their service officer has stated:

Thank-you for your letter dated 30/10/2006 (their reply is dated 29th November 2006!)
Under the data subject access rules there is a charge of £10.00 payable in advance for the work involved.
Upon receipt of the said funds we are, by law required to respond to your request within 40 days.
I trust this meets with your approval & await your response in due course.

Now this would make sense if we had asked for his bank statements, but the letter they have received on 30th Oct 06 was a request for a refund, we have already paid the £10 fee for my hubby's bank statements?

Are they just delaying the process?
Have they not even read the letter we have sent, so they are presuming we are asking for his statements?
Or can they charge £10 to look at his request for a refund?

I'm very confused, any help (before we reply) would be greatly appreciated?

    Mel.
