Tesco Recycling Machines?

Options
I made a call to Tesco head office late last year to ask when their new recycling machines would be installed at stores.

This much vaunted plan in 2006 calls for stores (although not all of them) to be fitted with machines to crush and recycle packaging and waste.

Has anyone seen hide or hair of one anywhere or have any updates on this?

Tesco told me they would be fitted "Early in the New Year".

Called customer services today on the freephone number; at first was given Head Office number, but after I complained that this information involved me paying for a call to a department that didn't actually know anything and requested to speak to a supervisor, I was given the following information:

6 installed, Winchester and 5 others
100 to come in areas of low recycling & poor infrastructure where Tesco has the support of local councils to put them in; they are likely to be sited in clusters to maximise the efficiency.
  • got one in Cheshunt
  • We have one in Southampton. Get green points for recycling glass, tins, and plastic bottles, assuming these are the recycling machines you're talking about.
    Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR
  • In the czech republic, you can take your bottles to a recycling sorter at most supermarkets. For bottles, it will give you your deposit back, and sort the bottles into the correct crates to be returned to the manufacturers. Very pleasing. Even Tesco's has them!!! Much better than smashing bottles in a bottle bank here, and much much better than throwing them away.

Hard cash for your 'rubbish' is the best incentive.

Funnily enough we were discussing this the other day, we could only think of the milkman now, that's takes bottles back :confused:

As a kid I think I can remember R Whites (who are still going), Corona and possibly Cresta that did refunds on the return of bottles. I'm assuming the breweries still do returns etc??

I'd love to know why it all stopped, we thought it was because of the dreaded plastic bottle arriving on the scene :confused:

Thats the Tesco I am talking about, I'm in Southampton. Customer services have their moments and if you get the right lady, she is a GEM! (Can't remember her name though, sorry!)
