Tesco misprice discussion area part 9

Options
This is a continuation of the previous thread here

This thread is for any discussions on the Tesco policy regarding misprices. Please don't post misprice items in this thread but you can chat away to your heart's content here, leaving the other thread just for listing the 'finds'

Any misprices you find should be posted in this thread here. Thanks :)

Tesco Head Office telephone number is 0800 505555
Tesco Head Office address is

Sir Terry Leahy (MD)
TescoPLC
New Tesco House
Delamare Rd.
Cheshunt
Herts EN8 9SL

(Thanks to Art over for this)

For new readers:

For clarification SEL stands for Shelf Edge Label and R and R stands for Refund and Retain. The Tesco policy on signs instore is :-

"And if things don't add up ~ In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product"

Compare the price per kilo on the pack with the shelf edge label price per kilo and where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged.
Thanks to !!!!!! Dastardly for providing the following information from the DTI website which summarises consumer rights in relation to misleading price indications:

Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader.

  • constantine - quick question - re tesco clubcards we have 4 clubcards here, one for me, one for OH, one for my son and a credit card which is also our clubcard. Do Tescos ever look at duplicate clubcard accounts or merge accounts ?? just wondering as we only received 2 out of the 4 expected tesco clubcard voucher mailings but I do not want to phone up incase it highlights the 4 accounts. Thanks Welshy x

As long as your 4 accounts are genuine I dont see the problem (ie your sons account is not for a 3 year old :o )

I have 3 myself - mine, wifes and Credit Card.

The mailings are staggered, I always get my CC statement 10 days before the other two. Otherwise there is a danger that Tesco would break the Post Office every quater if they tried to send them all in one go ;)

  • Can we please stop the petty name calling, too? To some, it may be funny. However, to those who are the subject of these "jokes", it's obviously not amusing. You're ruining it for everyone and will probably cause the thread to be closed permanently if you keep it up. Obviously, this only applies to a select few. The rest of us genuinely want to talk about Tesco misprices, rather than participate in childish !!!!!! contests.

Right, no food poisoning today... :D

Thought this excellent piece by Hey Dude should go near the top of the first page

.........Everything You Wanted to Know About Scanning But Were Afraid To Ask........

What Is the Scanner? It's a handy price checking device - you scan the barcode of a product and it shows you the price the product will scan at.

Where Is the Scanner? This link will give a list of scanner locations for many stores.

Still Can't Find the Scanner Dude? Most Tesco stores have at least one scanner - Extra stores often have two - popular locations include clothing, pharamcy and pet food aisles.

Remember that the scanners require power (duh!) so check the walls and pillars as this is the easiest way for an engineer to run a power cable to the beasty.

If you can't find it quick! - ask a member of staff - to avoid asking any CS staff on walkabout try one of the staff doing a tesco.com shop or a shelf stacker.

What Can I Scan? Everything Dude! A can of baked beans - an xbox - even a Dyson - just find the barcode on the item and lug it over to the scanner!

Won't I look suspicious? Probably not - it's easy to feel paranoid when you are price checking - but to be honest staff are busy doing their jobs! The only problem could be if you scan something under the nose of a CS member of staff - just 'check your six' before you scan and don't look too guilty. Don't worry about CCTV - these are looking for shoplifters not R&Rs!

Scanner is Broken? The collective wisdom of this forum is that there is no Tesco conspiracy to break scanners - they will eventually get repaired - it's just not a top priority for Tesco stores - feel free to report a broken scanner to CS staff or Head Office.

Scanner Says No? I think you mean Scanner Says 'Contact a member of staff' - this is not unusual - scan the item a number of times in quick succcesion and you will usually get a price.

Appreciate this is probably old news for veterans - hope this is of use to some of you newbie R&R Dudes!

Just remember to post your finds on the Misprice Thread!

from the Duder, if it's useful thank him, not me.
  • Ok need some advise was told by a manager after being overcharged that Head Office had advised them it was up to each manger and they descretion if they did R&R. The item was over £200 and he stated if it had been under the £200 he would have done it. I called head office from the CS desk but they agreed that he had the final say. He agreed I was right, although I ended up getting a REFUND and leaving after taking his name of course. It made it worse as he walked off with a smug grin and the out of date POS knowing I was right.

Any advise as to what I could have said or done would be appreciated. I also I was more annoyed as he was very arrogant and rude, than losing on the R&R.
Mummy to 5 beautiful girls and yes it is very hard work lol x :o

Was it A manager or THE manager?

If you have not done so already, the Store Manager is your best bet.
