For new readers:

For clarification SEL stands for Shelf Edge Label and R and R stands for Refund and Retain. The Tesco policy on signs instore is :-

"And if things don't add up ~ In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product"

Compare the price per kilo on the pack with the shelf edge label price per kilo and where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged.
Thanks to !!!!!! Dastardly for providing the following information from the DTI website which summarises consumer rights in relation to misleading price indications:

Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader.

ahhh a fresh new thread.. feels good! hehe
    I LOVE MSE! :money:
  • Sorry if this has been posted before but:
I have just noticed that in my tesco's nearly all of the bacon and gammon products now no longer have a pack price printed on - the white space for the price is left blank, and there's *only* the SEL. Is this the store's way of avoiding price discrepancy R&Rs? Anyone here work for Tesco?

It might be. Our store has the opposite ie it has most of the SELs on the meat aisles missing.

Has anyone come across individual stores limiting the number of items you can R&R? I ask because I noticed two signs behind the CS desk on Friday. The first said that store policy on bulk purchases was 12 items. The second was an addition to the sign displaying the R&R policy and said that the store refund/overcharge policy on bulk purchases was a maximum of 1 item.

I guess this is to prevent people getting R&R multiple purchases.

I also wanted to say thanks to everyone who posts on this site for being such an inspiration! I have only managed one R&R so far for a grand total of £1.76 on some lemonade but I guess you've got to start somewhere! :)

I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to try for a big item like an xbox but you guys have taught me to be much more vigilant about pricing. Unfortunately, my local tesco's seem to be very good at checking their shelf labels and it's several miles to the next nearest so I don't think I'll be giving up work just yet! :) Hey ho, it's certainly made my shopping trips more interesting

Manager tried to fob me off and claimed he hadn't heard of the R&R policy. But, having been inspired by this site, I was feeling brave and asked him if he'd mind checking.

I wonder what the poster actually asked? if he asked wat about the r+r policy Im not sure if he would know what you were talking about.

as far as I know r+r is sommthing that we use to refer to the policy, maybe constantine or spa2k could let us know if the polict is refered to as r+r?

    Thanks

I though R&R was mentioned on the board in stores? Maybe not!

    Hi LJ

I think I said something like "I thought Tesco's had a refund and retain policy". His reponse was "A what policy? I don't know anything about that" That's when I asked if he wouldn't mind double checking. I definitely didn't refer to it as r&r

I also couldn't see the policy displayed in the store to point it out.

I always try and sound as dumb as I possibly can when asking for an R&R (not hard, really :rotfl: ). "Oh... I thought if you are charged more than it says on the shelf, you get all your money back or something!" combined with a butter-wouldn't-melt expression usually works for me! :D

I would never mention anything about refunding and retaining... :o
  • one local tescos store has a bulk policy notice right by the cs desk... near the big blue price sign policy... it mentions a bulk sale of 6.. the amount is written in marker.. with the no 6 and written in letters six... so maybe each store has its own bulk amount policy...
