For new readers:

For clarification SEL stands for Shelf Edge Label and R and R stands for Refund and Retain.

the Tesco policy on signs instore is :-

"And if things don't add up ~ In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product"

Compare the price per kilo on the pack with the shelf edge label price per kilo and where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged.

Thanks to !!!!!! Dastardly for providing the following information from the DTI website which summarises consumer rights in relation to misleading price indications:

Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader.

Organic Chicken thighs SEL £5.27 Price marked on packets at £6+

Thought I had my first R & R but they seem to have disabled the scanner - tells you to ask for a member of staff so I didn't go ahead. They had loads though so it might help someone else who needs them anyway and wants to take a chance

If the sel stated £5.27 & the packets £6+, then you do not have to scan this because it is a definate R&R. The till will definately scan it at the packet price.

Thats only true if the price is per kg. If it £6+ for the packet it could scan at the lower price. This has happened to be on a couple of occasions with mince etc which is sold at a set weight 500g, 800g etc.

I got the gammon steaks already mentioned on here today, although I did have to go to three stores - how sad is that?
Finest Rump Steak £11.99 SEL £8.99 not sure if this has already been mentioned and cooked whole Chickens already mentioned.

Thanks to all the ops for these.

Leaving me to make out as if I was pleased that I didn't get overcharged and thanking her for saving me a fiver. Didn't dare look her in the face cos' I didn't want to see her smugness.

What's the return policy on games? Stuck with a game that cost me £15.00.

Some of you will be laughing at me now but, hey,..... you lose some, you lose some, that's my policy!!!

Will have to try doubly hard tomorrow.

You may struggle with Suduko - as it's not sealed - you could argue that it was sold in this condition - point to the same game in a security box that is also sans cellophane.

    Had another result:

Took Sudoku back this aft, told that initially that as it was opened they don't usually exchange but after my explanation, I could pick something else for the same price.

Happy with that, I went to the games section and chose SSX on Tour for the PS2 at £19.99 on the sticker.

Took it back to CS and told her there wasn't anything of the same price of £14.95 that I wanted, so I decided to get this one and was willing to pay the extra.

I paid £19.99 for it, got my receipt and turned around to leave and said..................

    wait for it...........................................................................................

"Er excuse me, you seem to have charged me £19.99 for this game?"

CS said, "That's what it says on the sticker, doesn't it?

I said, "yes it does, but it says £17.94 on the shelf ticket!!!!!!

    Bingo!!! Full R&R.

    Cheeky git, aren't I?

Ahhh - so you're actually Bill Gates :p

Wondered what you'd get up to Bill after stepping down from the MS Board.

At this rate I think you'll be taking over Mr T's............;)

MagicBox Touch single, charged £49.95, large yellow SEL at £39.95

Apart from CS slowness, put-on dimness, and time-wasting, no problem with R&R on two twins (ie four phones) and one single. I can now retire happy from Tesco R&R!

Got this this afternoon but only had the nerve to take one twin although there were three on display and a single. SEL for twin removed and asked to give my name and address. This is the second time in a month I've been asked to give my name and address and I'm worried they'll ban me since there are no other Tescos in travelling distance.

Unfortunately its quite tight. They will exchange it for the same title if its faulty. Thats about it. If your lucky they may let you exchange for a different title, or anything from the Entertainment section, however they don't have to.

Like you said you win some you lose some, and your still very much in profit ;)
