Mr Walkline or something similar if I remember rightly. :)

I believe the bananaman was Watkis if I'm not mistaken but it was a while back, in any event he is not the one spa refers to.

We crossed posted spa, sorry I didn't think you were referring to bananaman somehow.

I can certainly say I have seen a big improvement of late, when a misprice is noticed it is only hours in some cases where it is put right, when this thread launched it was taking weeks for each misprice to be sorted, in most cases the only thing that resolved the misprice was the end of a promotion rather than action to remove it. Yes bananaman had a good impact but I would not say the greatest. You haven't studied your Tesco history book enough sorry spa. Bananaman was a points man not an r&r fiend!

It was only him on the circuit around 5/6 years ago and he made an awful lot of money out of it. Wether or not this thread has made a massive impact is open to debate, i'm sure there are many stores out there that have not even heard of it.

There are of course the technically savvy that do know about it and where it will have made a difference, but it certainly wont be in the league of the changes that Mr Walkling bought about.
I assure you he wasn't alone

Unfortunately for Argos, precedent would suggest that they stand to lose. Many in the UK will remember the Hoover competition which offered free holidays on the purchase of a washing machine. The company was forced to honour its pledges, almost bringing itself to its knees in the process. Supermarkets, too, have had their fair share of problems due to misadvertising prices. The Walkling case, for example, resulted in a family claiming (and receiving) £30,000 worth of goods. This was due to Sainsbury's policy of letting customers keep the goods and get their money back if they found that an item was mis-priced. Another example is of an enterprising customer buying £5000 worth of beer at Tesco, then going directly to the customer service counter and asking for their money back - and getting it. The service representative is reported to have commented that the lucky customer "didn't do as well as a chap in our Stratford store," or words to that effect. It is understood that Sainsbury's have now changed this policy, but Tesco, to date, have not.

Can't say I've heard of bananaman.....

The tone of your other posts suggests a greater knowledge of historical happenings than you are letting on!!

Bananaman and Walkling are not the same, Bananaman who the above poster referred to was the guy who took a trolley train to the checkout full of bananas because Tesco were giving points in the ratio of 150/1 spent and then f**ked off on a cruise on the proceeds or something like that.

Mr Walkling whilst he did well would be not necessarily be the one to have benefited the most out of r&r whilst he did indeed do well his downfall was the publicity and his gain shortlived. Although he does not seem to be in the public limelight for the last few years so maybe he got wise from his loss.

Yeah I saw that but it's a little mixed up, Walkling did Tesco if I remember rightly not Sainsbury's as quoted, he did a few magazine articles up till about two or three years ago but interested waned, Tesco for the last three years have become complacent again {you'd have thought they would have learned from history} and this thread has certainly put a spring in their step again, I am refreshed at how few misprices there currently are, you don't need me to tell you that take a look back over the threads it's plain to see.

  • My local Tesco today - two more packs of Ecover, this two weeks after I got a refund on another two packs of Ecover. They ldidn't take the SEL down two weeks back, enabling me to grab some more today. Full refund without quibble. The strange thing was that CS put it down as waste.
