    Got this this afternoon but only had the nerve to take one twin although there were three on display and a single. SEL for twin removed and asked to give my name and address. This is the second time in a month I've been asked to give my name and address and I'm worried they'll ban me since there are no other Tescos in travelling distance.

    when I get time I want to research the law on this. I know that the data protection act states that the data must only be used for its intedned purpose. You therefore have the right to ask what purpose your name and address will be used for.

    They told me it was to prove I had been given a refund...even though the item and refund amount weren't on the slip I wrote my details on?! Also the refund till receipt is proof alone.

    If think you are well within your rights to refuse to give your name and address. I will read relevant laws to make sure.

    After a quick search, the data protection act (1998) seems to be abut data already held, rather thanwhen they actually ask you for data.

    However you can ask them how they will comply with the following 8 principles...the data must be:

    fairly and lawfully processed;
    processed for limited purposes;
    adequate, relevant and not excessive;
    accurate and up to date;
    not kept longer than necessary;
    processed in accordance with the individual's rights;
    secure;
    not transferred to countries outside the European Economic area, unless there is adequate protection

    also:

    "2. The right to prevent processingAnyone can ask a data controller not to process information relatingto him or her that causes substantial unwarranted damage or distress to them or anyone else" - so if them recording the data will cause you distress you can refuse.

    I'd love to hear from anyone who's found specific laws about refusing to give personal data.

    So would I. My local store always takes my name and address. When I complained I was told the R&R was given as per their policy and taking my name was also their policy.
    Not much I could argue about really. It was a case of take it or leave it!

    I'm afraid its a store only policy, however I beleive if you are overcharged they will rectify to the correct price.

    Unfortunately its quite tight. They will exchange it for the same title if its faulty. Thats about it. If your lucky they may let you exchange for a different title, or anything from the Entertainment section, however they don't have to.

    Like you said you win some you lose some, and your still very much in profit ;)

    If it's faulty they are obliged by law to refund on demand no if's or but's.

    McDonag, Can I ask a personal question ?
    Apart from ba**s of steel,
    The luck of the Irish,
    The face of an innocent child
    the acting ability of a true thespian
    and The gift of the gab.....
    Do I assume you are of average height, average build, average appearance. Not 6 foot 4 with flaming Red hair, or any other distinguishing features ?
    I cannot believe that your details are not circulated around ALL the Tescos where your Club card or Credit card are used. You are more of a threat to Tescos profits than Asda and Sainsburys combined.

    I feel paranoid just walking into a store I have had an R&R from

    Some posters report being followed around stores, or even BANNED, and yet you seem to walk out daily with trolleys full of high value goods.
    How come you have not been banned from ALL Tesco stores or at the very least followed around by security whenever you are seen within a 5 mile radius of a Tesco store ?:confused:

    I have nothing but admiration ( apart from LOADS of envy - but I am honest enough to know I haven't got your sheer nerve !!) and am mighty glad you do manage all the R&Rs without getting banned.
    Apart from being a true inspiration, and providing loads of detail and ideas for the rest of us, you also make me feel as though I'm doing my local Tesco a favour, they are lucky to have me. They could have you living near by, and then they would all soon be re-educated about the company policy on overcharging.:A
    I am trying to work up the nerve to try for a phone ( mobile or home) or a new camera wouldn't go a miss. I will take it one step at a time and just try one, and then maybe 2 at a time.;)
    If the kids find out about my R&Rs they will have me trying for a flat/plasma screen TV - the bigger the better, and I don't think I'm up to that yet !!:rotfl:
  • Found three discrepencies at the tesco on Market Street, manchester.

    First was the Organic Beef Mince SEL £1.69, pack was £1.99, saw 12 packs there, also Organic Lamb mince SEL £1.99 pack price £2.49, also chicken breast x2 had SEL price £8.26/kg, but pack had £8.45. I checked the descriptions very carefully, but the store manager decided not to honour the chicken r&r even though he ordered a store assistant to take the label out....(wish I had taken a photo first).
    The manager at the time "Vic" on label, didn't talk to me directly even though I addressed him, he spoke to a CS assistant, he didn't acknowledge my presence either.....someone in the CS queue also noticed and commented on how "rude" he was to me. Well i didn't buy the beef mince, but I did buy two packs of Organic lamb mince and had some yummy bolognese anyway....the description of the CHICKEN item was definitely the same as the product....but there was one word on the pack "fillet" that was not on the SEL. Will have another look for you Bargain hunters tomorrow...
