Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 15th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning.

Cool this morning, but warmer than the evening. I had to scrape ice off the windscreen before coming home, but its clear this morning.

Work at 1pm, but I woke early... must be the Wetherspoons curry. Man was it cheap last night. Some drinks were 99p and rounds for several people we just over a tenner. No wonder other pubs are going bust. Managed to keep it to a few only:T

Downloaded my credit card statement before they posted it and I have survived Christmas with a little in hand, so very happy:D

Not much else going on here.... Working weekend:sad:

Cheers

Just about to cook breakfast for hubby & then take him to the station. I shall trundle off to work from the station, no point in coming home & loads to do at work too.
Still slippery here with loads of slush
    Have a good day everyone.

Morning N9eav and everyone to follow.

After my lovely walk yesterday with the dogs I have been confined to my bed, only getting up to be sick :( I don't know what it is but I feel like I've been hit by a truck.

OH is still in work and I won't expect him home for another 5 hours at least because he was to do 'the walk' this morning and he needs to buy a new pair of work trousers.

The animals must know I'm soft when I'm ill, I've got the shepherd tucked up next to me in the bed :o

I'm going to get some more sleep, have a wonderful day everyone.

Lucky Hubby to get breakfast cooked for him. I just get my cereal and sneak out quietly after making 4 packed lunches...

Morning N9eav and all who follow.

I hope the weather is getting better for you all. I see some areas are thawing, some are not but let's hope it clears up soon. The novelty of all that snow must be wearing off, I should think, even for the children.

We were really lucky - we had really low temperatures but very little snow or ice.

I hope all the poorly ones are starting to feel better now. My cough turned out to be a virus but it's almost gone now, thankfully. I was getting fed up with having my sleep disturbed every night.

Dinner tonight is undecided because I forgot to get the meat out of the freezer. I need to go shopping so will take my inspiration from the butcher, I think. Lunch will be the rest of the leek, potato, garlic and bacon soup that I made the other day - it was delicious. Last night we had pork fillet sliced with a sauce made with leeks, mushrooms, garlic and creme fraiche. It's one of our favourites.

I've had an invitation to go for my first French mammograph - they do the screening every two years here, as opposed to every three years in the UK. My last one was two years ago so the timing is good.

The medical side of things here is so different to the UK. I needed to see the doctor about my cough and was able to make an appointment for the following day, and with no long wait in the waiting room. You have to pay the doctor for the appointment - €22 each time, but you get all but €1 refunded back into your bank account. It seems so strange compared to the UK and I'm not sure it would be a good idea for British GPs to keep money in their surgeries! Anyway, it all seems very efficient. When you collect your medication, you don't have to sign the prescription at the pharmacy. They tap what you need into a computer and it's with you within seconds. In our local pharmacy it comes down a chute from upstairs right to the till. You pay per item and get up to two thirds refunded back into your bank account within a couple of days.

We are planning our trip back to the UK now. We aim to leave here on 6th Feb and return on 16th, although I know I'll find that just as hard as last time, once I've spent time with the family. My new granddaughter is almost five months old and the last time I saw here (apart from on Skype) was when she was ten days old, so I'm longing to see her again, and the rest of the family. I've missed them so much. We were going to go back this month but I wanted to make sure we were germ free beforehand! I would hate to take coughs and colds back to them all.

Anyway, I'd better go and put the kettle on.

Hope you all have a great day.

Good morning Chums ,up with the lark again this morning as I have the school run to do.Then a visit to the hairdressers for a trim.I'm starting to look like an old english sheepdog .Then off to my history class after lunch.so its a busy day ahead. Feel quite good about everything this morning ,all bills paid, and up to date I got £56 odd back in cashback to pay towards my Christmas bills from my credit card company. So January is quite a good month so far.
I uses my c/card as a debit card, and at the end of the year get a nice chunk back in January which is very handy.I always pay my c/card off at the end of every month so its like I'm getting paid to spend my own money ,result.
No shopping to buy today as I have more than enough to last me over the weekend and want to use up some eating apples in the conservatory that are starting to look a bit wrinckly(like me).I shall stew them and cover with custard
that will do for a couple of nights for pud. I have some salmon in the freezer so I think I'll have some with mashed potato's and green beans for dinner tonight.
The weather seems a tad warmer so with luck the snow will melt and normality will be resumed on our streets once more. I have a small ironing mountain that needs sorting tonight and finding a place for.so I shall be fairly busy bunny today.Hope everyone has a good day
    Take care all

    Morning peeps

its a lot warmer here today, it only took me a few minutes to scrape the ice off the car as it was really thin so i got to work very early.

I made the stuffing for later on tonight too as we are having roast pork, stuffing, jacket potatoes and veg :D is it wrong to be looking forward to tea at this time in the morning?

Nothing much else to report really, i`ve put the washing in as it was still cheap rate electricity when i got up and the dishwasher had already finished but i`ve left that for DH to empty.
I shall hang up the washing when i get home later.

Sequeena - Sorry to hear that you feel so bad, hope that you feel better as the day goes on.

    Have a good day everyone.

Change of plan here, hubby had a phone call while he was eating his breakfast, no work today after all.
I shan't leave for work just yet, I just hope I can get the car out today, I can't walk to work as I need to go to the chemist's after work & it's too far to walk.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning All

    TGI Friday :j

We had loads of rain yesterday so nearly all the snow is gone. Feels milder here too but havn't looked outside yet.

Wanted to go into town this morning to have another look at the M&S 3 meats for £10 but I have got to make a few phone calls first thing so don't think that will be happening.

Usual washing, housework & paperwork today. Think its pork kebabs for tea but will have to check the meal planner.

Might have DS at home again today, doc said he had a viral infection - hoping he is feeling better when he gets up.

Best get on, have a broken down lorry to sort.

    Have a good day.x

    Morning everyone.

Mindee coming at 9am so very little OS going on. My beef that is in the SC from late yesterday smells delish and I really want to eat some now :rotfl: But its for the kids lunch although I think I may do myself a little dinner with them ;) I normally scoff a sandwich (as I don't get much chance to sit and eat) but a nice little beef dinner will go down perfectly I think :D
I really enjoyed all the BF comments on yesterdays thread. Its nice to be able to talk about such an emotive topic without it decending into chaos (trust me I've seen it happen on other forums ). The one thing I have noticed about having babies is that EVERYONE has an opinion and most will give it to you whether you want it or not :rotfl: And I guess to a certain degree I am not exception :rotfl: :o

I watched the last one of My Big Fat Diet - I agree with Purpleivy et al - what a waste of mushrooms and veg for the gravy - why didn't he blitz it and add it to the gravy to make it thicker and therefore getting more veg into the meal  In some respects I enjoyed the show (passed an hour away at any rate) and me and H were talking about it afterwards. He asked me if I could do something like that to which I replied no  I want to lose weight by changing my eating habits rather than going on a bit of a starvation diet. I applaud their efforts but I would love to know how many of them have actually kept the weight off. I did find it a bit odd about how in the first episode the presenter was knocking other diets and how they don't work and then proceeded to host a show that was just about another diet - only this one revolved around restricting to 1200 calories a day  Anyway I shall get off my soap box on this one, having done WW there is no way on this earth I shall ever do another "diet" again.

Sequeena - hope you feel better soon xx

Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.
