Health in pregnancy grant

Options
I've just heard about a "Health in pregnancy grant" that is possibly being introduced from April 2009
The basics are that doctors/midwives will have forms for completion, (which will need signing by them to confirm pregnancy etc), to apply for a £190 grant for expectant mothers, (help with costs and health towards end of pregnancy). It is not dependant on low income etc (like SureStart grant of £500) but is available to anyone, whatever their household income
I'm expecting our first baby on 5th April 2009 and would like to know if anyone knows more information, or where it can be found, (there is nothing on the HMRC website), as I'm not due to see my midwife for another 3 weeks or so.

    never mind that ...

    what about this

From April 2009, expectant mothers in England would receive a one-off payment from their 29th week of pregnancy to encourage them to eat well

So do expectant mothers in Scotland , Ireland and Wales not deserve it?

I assume it would be up to their respective parlement/govement wotsits to take it on board, don't forget that england pay higher prescription charges its swings and roundabouts

sounds like a bit of an ill thought out idea, surely it would be better to make every pg lady entitled to the healthy start fruit n veg and vitamins vouchers

  • This is basically your Child Benefit which will now be paid from the 29th week of pregnancy , in a one off lump sum of £190 (29 weeks - 40 weeks) and is aimed at healthy eating during the last few weeks of pregnancy ! Once baby is born you then claim Child Benefit in the usual manner
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

I'm sure that if it were equal to child benefit the amount would be less than that
