sold a phone on ebay - buyer having me on!!! EDIT: Now he's opened Paypal Dispute

Right.. I sold a faulty phone on Ebay (which I described as faulty). The end price was only £10 plus postage. It was posted yesterday.

Today the buyer has got back to me saying the keypad is cracked and has sent a photo to prove it. He wants a part refund as I apparently described the item 'wrong'. This is really strange because the photo he sent me is of a gray phone, but the phone I sold was black!!!

Now... how do I go about solving this? I can ask him to send the whole phone + box back and I can issue him a refund, but he might dupe me and send me this dummy phone instead??? I dont really want to get in to an argument with him if I go off on the wrong foot - he might accuse me of calling him a liar???

I dont know if I am allowed to post ebay links, which has images of my phone, and the pic he sent me... I will post these if someone can confirm i can do so?

We are only talking a tenner here, so I am really puzzled as to why he's trying to get one over me on such a small amount of money !!!

Has he bought any other phones recently?

You could reply and say 'Perhaps you've mixed up your purchases. The phone I sold you was black, not grey'

That's assuming it really is a grey phone, and not just a bad photo!

I'd also check what else he's been buying recently, as he might have mixed you up with someone else.

Did you note down the phone serial number before sending it? Do you still have the receipt from when you bought it which might state the serial number?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

sadly i didnt note the IMEI of my phone. But this is intriguing. He has bought a lot of faulty phones. One of those he bought was also a Samsung D900 like mine, and lo and behold theres feedback from the seller saying 'customer not happy with phone, listed wrongly' ... I can post links to these auctions and mine, and the picture of the phone he sent me later on from home ... can someone please verify this is within the forum rules?

If it was faulty anyway, suggest he sends it back, recorded delivery, for a refund - if he is trying it on, he probably won't pay the postage.

Well you could post the pictures and links anyway, and they'll then take them off if they're against the rules. Other people have posted links before, so I don't think it's against the rules.

Sounds like this guy is trying to pull a fast one by buying two identical broken phones for cheap, then trying to rebuild a working one whilst getting them for free!

    thats a good idea.

Anyway, heres the link to my auction:

Pics are a bit blurry but good enough quality to see the keypad is NOT broken, and the phone is black.

Now, take a look at the picture he has sent me ...

Is that a black phone or silver ??

I would just sent a polite reply back saying sorry that's not my phone as you can see mine is black and from the listing photos the keypad is not cracked.

You must have me confused with one of the other faulty phones you have brought recently.
  • Could you call his bluff? Tell him no probs send the phone back as you have the serial numbers and when you are in safe receipt (return postage at his own cost) of the phone you will issue a refund.

  • Just had a look at the buyers feeback and I reckon he buys faulty mobiles, refurbishes then resells at a premium. May well have realised that the particular mobile he bought from another can't be fixed and has already left feedback for cracked one:confused:
