    I received this from a customer service advisor after I queried the 'fair usage policy'

    "The bolt-on is valid until the end of the current contract and is
    subject to the network's fair usage policy. This, in effect, will limit
    free use to 200MB per month, which is generally sufficient for average
    daily use for most customers."

    I think they send a text message if you keep going over but I can't see them letting people go over every month and not charge and certainly not into GBs. It shows the 200mb usage allowance on the CPW website , it's not actaully called 'unlimited' on there anymore even though the staff still claim it is. when i queried this they stated they can use the word 'unlimited' as 95% of people don't go over and to see their T's and C's. so it's a bit naughty really and just an advertising ploy.

    There was a 200mb limit when the iPhone first came to O2, but this was quickly lifted.

    i wasn't talking about the Iphone sim or contract i was talking about the regular £7.50 a month O2 web bolt on. I believe the fair usage on the iphone contract is 1gb.

    Hmmmm well I've just got a Simplicity sim with web bolt-on and there's no mention of 200mb fair usage anywhere in the documentation.

    The only mention of actual MB usage for data bolt ons is under Business Contracts terms and conditions. The T&Cs for consumers doesn't have a set limit.
    Data Bolt On Terms
    • The Web Bolt On allows you unlimited use of Telef!nica O2 UK Limited's Edge/GPRS/ 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone. All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
      • in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
      • to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (Voip), P2P or file sharing; or
      • in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers.
    If O2 reasonably suspects you are not acting in accordance with this policy O2 reserves the right to impose further charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission, remove the Web Bolt On from your account or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.
    And here are the T&Cs for business contracts...
    1. The monthly subscription package for the O2 Web Bolt On tariff can only be added to a business voice tariff and allows you unlimited use of O2’s 3G/GPRS Mobile Data Services for Permitted Use only.
    2. Permitted Uses of O2 Web Bolt On are use of your SIM Card within a handheld mobile device for the purposes of Internet Browsing and email (excluding BlackBerry® email) only.
    3. Any other use of the O2 Web Bolt On tariff will not be a Permitted Use, including but not limited to:
    4. Use of the O2 Web Bolt On tariff with
      • Data Cards or Modems;
      • Instant Messaging,
      • IP Telephony,
      • Point 2 Point file sharing and file transfer,
      • VoIP (e.g. Skype™),
      • Video and TV streaming,
      • Slingboxes; and
      • Use in conjunction with routers.
    5. O2 reserves the right to suggest an upgrade to the O2 Web Max tariff or to withdraw the O2 Web Bolt On tariff from you at any time if O2 reasonably suspects you of using the service for uses other than the Permitted Uses or abuse of the service, including using an a typical volume of data as compared to normal users of the O2 Web Bolt On tariff, which will normally be less than 200MB of usage within a one month bill cycle (termed “fair usage”).

    The link I put on is for the regular web bolt on ,as you can see there is no mention of business contracts it's the page with details of what data bundles they offer and it clearly states 200mb uasge allowance. I don't have a business contract and have had the fair usage limit confirmed over the phone and by e-mail as i quoted. I'm sure they weren't making it up!

    I'll be keeping an eye on my usage to make sure i don't go over. don't fancy a hefty bill!

    There won't be any charges, as O2 don't state any specific limit. What they will do is inform you that your usage is excessive, and ask you to tone it down a little. If you ignore these messages, that's when they can start charging you for the data you use.
