Unless you have signed something saying full and final settlement, no. Just write and say that you have reconsidered, and that on second thoughts, you don't think it's acceptable to only partially refund charges they have unlawfully deducted from your account.

Click on the link under my sig if you need further info and support.
:j No further help required, bank paid up in 11 days. Thx 4 the advice. I have passed this info on to freinds at work:beer:
  • My Wife and I went travelling for 15 months, and when we returned we found that Barclays bank had charged us every month we were away because the account was £100.00 overdrawn, we racked up charges of £900.00

Do you think we will be able to claim these back as this was 2 years ago.

I would be grateful of any steps we should take.

    Thanks Dai

You are going to the Halifax...? Sheesh!

sorry ment we are trying to get cash from Halifax!

(hope it goes as we got mortage, savings, insurance current accounts and credit cards with Halifax -so they could say thanks and goodbye)

Just looking for who we make the payment to?

    Halifax PLC at a guess
  • If your unsure who to send the letters to, or who the payee is for paying a £10 cheque, just get the relevant companies website up, get a contact phone number, preferably one of the freephones or if not go into branch and use their internal phones and ask them for the information. Thats what I did I'm now up to the stage of having taken it to Court and the Bank involved having till June 18th to decide to pay me back.

I may be backing out o sueing my bank because of the problem of getting a new account, would be hard for me.

I only moved last week so current address is less then 1 month - very bad
    No landline yet - bad
No bank statements for current address - very bad
No utility bills yet for current address - bad
Not updated electrol roll yet - bad
Poor credit rating - very bad
No photo id - limited choice of banks, very bad for hsbc

I already done a online application for nationwide but messed up the flexaccount app by not including my current account details which is 9+ years current account, debit card/overdraft so makes me look like no banking history.

My elder sister's husband finally got an account (dont know where) when he got the photo version of provisional licence but hsbc only accept full licences so they have taken financial/social exclusion to a new level, only accepting drivers and people who been abroad.

Hi all, please bare with as a complete novice at all this kind of thing!!!
I have read all your posts with interest regarding the claiming back of unlawful charegs and I'm going to go for it against the Abbey and the Halifax!!!
Every month, Abbey charges me nearly £100 in bank charges  which invloves me going overdrawn for which they then charge me again!!!
Just a quick few questions really, if someone could help I'd be much obliged.
Can I send a £10 postal order rather than a cheque as it'll be a bit silly if the cheque bounces!!!
And is it best to take the letter in personally to the branch and then get the persons name you have given it to as proof of delivery?
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!!
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:

    Hi Guys

I need some help, the O/H possibly has a few hundred quids worth of these charges and would gladly claim them back if possible. He's had several cards over the past few years which where not always paid on time. He has now got them all in order and virtually clear, he possibly only has a short time within the 6 years to get these charges back.

Both of us have tried to register with the bank action group website so that we can download the letter templates and send them off and reclaim his charges.

However over 24 hours later and still no email confirming our accounts are active, its his day off tomorrw and if possible he would like to try and get this sorted.

Does anyone have copies of the letter templates or does anyone know what could be wrong with the website???

    Many thanks

    Regards

    MissG
I posted the Template for the initial letter on this thread a few pages back.

IMHO Postal order should be OK

If it's no hassle to take it to your local branch then do so, get a receipt.
Otherwise a proof of posting should be OK.
If they claim that they've 'lost' the letter, that's their problem, you just stick to your schedule, keeping proof of posting and copies of the letters.

    Bank bars overdraft charge rebels

Alliance & Leicester bank has decided to close the current accounts of people who have sued it for imposing supposedly unfair bank charges

The bank said the customers had clearly not accepted its terms and conditions.

This is just plain pitiful, you beat them and they just dont like it!!!

Talk about spitting your dummy out, this has got to be the best form of negative publicity A & L could just do without!!!

I wonder how long it will take for the other big banks to follow suit, what about the credit cards and people with large balances. Will they force you to pay the charges all at once or will they try and impose late payment charges on them too when you cant afford to clear the balance all at once.

I say leave them to it and to all thinkng of taking this action, open another current account prior to doing it.
