AVG Vn 8 (free version)

Hi - I'd be really grateful if someone could help please.
I've got an ancient but much used PC (Dell Dimension) that I'm still running Windows 98 SE on. It's about ten years old.
Had AVG 7.5 installed, which is set to check for updates automatically every morning. I think it tried to upgrade to AVG 8.0 this morning (had to restart computer but don't know why!) but couldn't because Windows 98 SE isn't supported. The little coloured AVG icon has turned black! It also takes ages to access the AVG stuff already on the computer and I can't get into the control centre bit.
Could anyone recommend some other anti-virus software that I can run on Windows 98 SE, if I uninstall AVG 7.5 first? It's only for a couple of weeks as I'm going to get a new computer soon.
Failing that, could I just take a chance for a couple of weeks? Will I still have the AVG 7.5 anti-virus cover up to yesterday?
Thanks
PS: I'm not very techie which I imagine you've gathered by now anyway!0 -

and ask the question there.
I've rebooted and it seems to be ok again, but will monitor it, before I put it on my main machine. If it does it again I'll report it on the Grisoft forums :beer:0 -

Sorry for all the questions - thanks.
Yes, I'm sure that 70 million users haven't moved to version 8 today! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

No not me, not time to post of another forum as well - at least it isn't just me, obviously a bit of a bug in this early release of v8...
Also I've noticed general browsing is slower too, without the toolbar installed (mainly when switching windows/tabs, loading new sites etc.0 -
