    Re slower browsing...

Try disabling link scanner, and I think that's the component that causes the brower slow down, trouble is when it's disabled the icon turns to reporting a "problem" in the system tray.

At the moment, I'm not convinced by v8!

Can anyone confirm that it hasn't gone all bloated and is still fast and efficient?
  • I installed AVG Free 8 today on a customers machine and I've gotta say I'm very impressed. It found things that even an up to date kaspersky rescue disk didnt pick up, and also things that spybot s&d didnt pick up. It got rid of them too!

Very impressed so far. My only gripe is that although it upgraded the already install 7.5 version, it didnt remove the old 7.5 shortcuts so that's a bit annoying.

Would you guys say its worth upgrading to 8 soon? This is because my current laptop only has 240mb RAM and so runs fairly smoothly with having 7.5. What I am concerned about is whether version 8 uses up more memory? Thanks

If they are just files in your web browser cache, it is not so serious. Check that the action done was healed or deleted or moved to vault.

Scanned my pc earlier and it found lots of issues. Most of them I 'think' are false positives, because (a) Some are programs that I use e.g crossloop, and (b) previous AVG and other packages have never flagged them up. When I found them in the vault I had to restore them to their original place.

Be warned, you need to change scanning settings so that it does not automatically move files to vault, but waits for you to tell it what to do.

Even though I use Windows Defender every day and it never finds any spyware. After using AVG 8 for the first time it found over 200 items of spyware which it deleted. I hope it knows what it is doing as I don't understand which is ok to delete and which isn't. If it is right then Windows defender is useless.
