Don't know if the current Vn 7.5 will auto-update to 8.0

I look forward to testing it out tomorrow:beer:

It this the version with anti virus and anti spyware now in 1 program not 2? I assume that only having to do 1 scan instead of 2 (and inspect each object for either type of nasty) is the completely logical step.

Look forward to reading your impressions.

Just had a pop-up window appear on my pc from AVG.

    Free AV and AS protection
New Safe Search and Surf Protection
    Safe downloads and Instant Messaging
    And much more...

I am going to download it now and post back here.

    Correction
Just clicked on the link and it took me to a page to PURCHASE Vn 8. Seems to be a last ditched ploy to get you to purchase Vn 8 before the free Vn comes out tomorrow.

We will find out tomorrow (hopefully) if the new free Vn 8 is a combined product.

Yes, the above programs do two slightly different things. One is anti virus, and the other is anti-spyware, which includes various other types of nasties not searched for by the anti virus program. So running them both as you do is a good thing as they look for different things.
However, it would obviously be more convenient to only have to run one.

I would say that you don't really need to run them every other day though, probably once a week would be good enough, provided you have a decent firewall.

On existing AVG Virus Checker, during the install wizard process, you get an option to perform the auto scan at low priority. Choose this and you should not notice the load AVG is creating - it will only run as a background and make way for any other programs. I assume the new AVG offers the same option...
