You have to watch out that yahoo does not become your default search engine. Take the tool bar.

Cheers, 45meg thats a big un, well 10meg more than AS and AV as seperates, I wonder if the new version will auto install over the top, couldnt see anything in the manual

Clicking next on the install will uninstall your old avg anti virus and anti spyware automatically.

Just a quick reminder. YES - you should completely uninstall AVG 7.5 Free Edition BEFORE you install AVG 8.0 Free.

avg always wait a few weeks before releasing the free version. same thing happened with the last major version. obviously its so they can "convince" some free subscribers to upgrade with the popups you get.

    to upgrade safely i would,
    download upgrade
    disconnect any network/internet connections
    uninstall old version (requires reboot)
install new version (prob requires reboot)

It's good to see that others are already installing it.

Here is my 2p worth about the install.
During System Check it detected my AVG anti-spyware and advised either to remove it manually later of let the install remove it. I clicked next.
It then told me that it had detected another AV product and advised to cancel install, un-install the current AV and then install Vn 8.

I then un-installed AVG AV & AS and rebooted.

When I tried to install Vn 8, it again said that it has detected another AV product. As I know I don't have any other AV installed, I continued with the install.

You get the option to install AVG Security Toolbar (I said yes, see later)

Once installed the configuration wizards kicks in.
o Updating - (greyed out, so have to settle for once a day)
o Scanning - Select a time (default is 12:00), option to tick box to enable daily scanning.
o Option to supply some non-personal data to AVG for website data
o Option to register product with AVG. This will give to write access to support forum, read-only if you don't register.

OK all installed and updated latest definitions.

Fired up IE and now have AVG Security toolbar (with Yahoo search window). Not sure if I like it and if it is worth having. If you do install it and decide you don't want it, then it can be disabled/removed using Manage Add-ons (3 entries).

That's it for now. Will report back with any issues later.

    Happy (safe) surfing:j

Once installed, under Tools -> Advanced Settings you can change scheduled scanning settings to more often (1 hourly if required). Lots of other settings here as well.

I guess it does not include Grisoft Anti-Rootkit so you might want to have that installed additionally.

The free AVG Anti-rootkit isn't available any more
