Scanned my pc earlier and it found lots of issues. Most of them I 'think' are false positives, because (a) Some are programs that I use e.g crossloop, and (b) previous AVG and other packages have never flagged them up. When I found them in the vault I had to restore them to their original place.

Be warned, you need to change scanning settings so that it does not automatically move files to vault, but waits for you to tell it what to do.

    hoof
i have 4 infected ( see above in reply to buglawton ) and 92 warning counts
i tried to do what you suggested ie change scanning settings but it was to late as scan was running and i tryed to untick box for that pref but it would not apply
now i will go see what i can do about the warning counts

    thanks

Even though I use Windows Defender every day and it never finds any spyware. After using AVG 8 for the first time it found over 200 items of spyware which it deleted. I hope it knows what it is doing as I don't understand which is ok to delete and which isn't. If it is right then Windows defender is useless.

I also have windows defender

Did it really find 200 items? Or has it turned into a program that reports cookies as spyware?

I don't know if it was cookies or not but whatever it was is gone now!

Would you guys say its worth upgrading to 8 soon? This is because my current laptop only has 240mb RAM and so runs fairly smoothly with having 7.5. What I am concerned about is whether version 8 uses up more memory? Thanks

I have just compared my desktop (Vn8 AV+AS)) with my laptop (V7.5 Anti-Virus only)

    7.5
    Program Memory Used
    avgamsrv.exe 432K
    avgcc.exe 528K
    avgemc.exe 1332K
    avgupsvc.exe 816K
    Total 3108K

    8.0
    Program Memory Used
    avgemc.exe 652K
    avgrsx.exe 18608K
    avgtray.exe 3472K
    avgwdsvc.exe 9488K
    Total 32220K

As you can see, Vn 8 uses ~10x more memory

I've just been on the AVG website and people there say to disable cookies scan as that probably is whats showing as spyware. so thats what I have done. Hope its the right thing.

This morning I downloaded the new Avg free 8.0.1 thinking it was such a good deal and upon the first scan it found 213 infections, spyware and trojans (trojan Bomka, downloader conhook, trojan zlob f, vundo-adware etc) A lot were activex from Internet Explorer which I never use. I use Firefox, spyware blaster and Nod 32 which never found anything on scanning. I deleted all of them and went back to Nod 32. I have no explanation for this, as I am a very careful surfer and do not visit risky sites, nor open email attachments. Could all these have been false positives? It is strange that Nod 32 never found anything???????

I am no techie, but I just found out on another forum that Avg 8 identifies the items you have immunized against in Spyware Blaster and Spybot and identifies them as being active on your system, when in reality they are not.

Its bloated, Its already picking up false positives, it found zlob from a fresh Acronis Image and I mean fresh, Acronis restore with no net connection, Installed AVG 8 from flash drive (pre formatted) and it found zlob, well thats impossible.

Slower web browsing and the website detection is way off, if it has no info on a website its automatically says it is a bad site do not enter, yeah ok on my test site, I dont think so.

The iclusion of AntiSpyware as a bundle puts me off aswell as because it increases the chance that a Virus may disable both as they are intertwined, I did have high hopes, lets see what happens when the bugs are ironed out.

And memory use it high on avgrsx.exe

    Totally concur with all that.

It's bloated, Disabling the link scanner improves browsing performance, but it's made a powerful system more sluggish. avgrsx.exe is using betwen 16 and 48 megs at the moment in RAM according to Task Manager and it's just sitting there passive, not running a scan or updating.

As a long term AVG user I'm not impressed.
