I'm sorry but expecting to use £20 of discount vouchers when your shopping total is only £26 is just asking for bother and in my opinion is abusing their policy.

Although I don't think it right they way they treated you.

My mistake your picture makes it look bigger than it actually is, no my front lawn isn't the swansea field, does it still carry the namve Vetch now?

The new ground is called something like "White Rock Stadium", but the Swansea City website calls it "The New Stadium"!

It is a fine example of what can be achieved when the local authority is prepared to support sports clubs (unlike here in Shrewsbury where the council has been as obstructive as it could be)
Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T

I assume that Igloo still hasn't had a response from Tesco Head Office?? Or maybe they've issued a gagging order!

Hi, No - I still havent had a response from Tesco.
    ......

So Igloo - how about now telling us which store was involved, together with the names of the people involved. ...
Come on Igloo - spill the beans if you still feel aggrieved by Tesco's treatment of you!

Thank you for your support but I dont really want to name the store or the people. I dont think it would help my case.

I've written to them with the help of some MSEers and I'm waiting for them to reply. i dont want to do anything until Ive given them to chance to reply to me.

    Thanks again

I think reading this thread (although I must confess I gave up on page 30) there have been a lot of lessons to learn.

Igloo (and I completely sympathise with you) has definately learned that Tesco are not as nice as they appear - and that customer service can be anything but.

From what I can tell Igloo is left with a dilema.

Either forget about the incident, put it behind them, never shop in Tesco again, and in the future when a lot of water has gone under the bridge treat it as an annecdote.

Or try to get back to how things were - write a letter of complaint etc etc and try and get their name vindicated (which from what I can tell is what they have done) - aside from this post anyway - but my guess is that this post was meant to get other opinion not to start world war 3.

Or rage a personal vendetta on Tesco. Personally this is the option I would want to take - especially if it was my wife who had been taken asside. I would want to do anything I could. I would consider targeting local and national press, BBC watchdog, putting up posters on the lampposts surrounding tesco car park, hand out leaflets, target share holders, write to Tesco not asking for an appology but demanding a dismisal of the staff involved (though probably accept a verbal warning). Finally after I got peoples attention and my name vindicated - I would walk in to Tesco calm as a cucumber buy some beaf and ask the customer services manager for a refund. I would definately have posted the names of staff and store here and everywhere else I could imagine. Even write to my MP.

I admire Igloo for not being so vindictive (thus far anyway). Well done. :T

    Not even the second

These incidences clearly display the calibre of security personel is such that these occurrances are nowhere near as isolated as you might think, it's just that the average consumer is generally so taken aback by such treatment they usually leave the situation with the impression that such behaviour is normal and acceptable because the only source of information they have is their aggressors. Most people are just glad their ordeal is over and feel ashamed as they are fully aware that anybody witnessing the proceedings will have formed the opinion that they were shoplifting, along with the "my word against theirs" fear.
Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.

Together we can make a difference.
  • Not directed at anyone but I am going to vent a little - I will keep my personnal thoughts to myself but after what happened today to myself in a Lincoln (Northen Terrace) store regarding using of coupons was total utter appaling.

A letter will be in the mail over the lanaguage that was coming out from the duty manager/checkout support women, it was on similar terms to Igloo but without been taken to another room or requesting my clubcard.

Its a great shame I didn't have the Tesco letter with me as they don't care about the coupon policy as they are working on their own terms.

One place has a policy of 1 coupon per tranaction as it all should be!
others is 1 coupon but upto 10% of the shop (I fight evertime and win over this one). Others not a problem to use them at all. But now at this Lincoln Store its 1 per person - no matter what! They accuse me of fraud  (How can it be!!) i.e. 6 packs of beef to make it £3.98 -£3.00 Joey coupon = £0.98 don't mind paying that "per" transaction as stated in there policy which I have in written form from Tesco on headed paper.

  • Unfortunately the coupon policy problem is complex - when it does not need to be.

In my limited dealing with Head Office (over something else) they told me the coupon policy was down to the discretion of the manager of the individual store.

This means each store doing their own thing and effectively making it up as they go along.

Add to this, the problem of STAFF not knowing what the policy is for their store AND the policy not being on PROMINENT display at the tills and the problems then really begin.

Into the mix, add the GREEDY customers who, not happy to just pass a few coupons through, but have to try and pass through lots of them, when not buying the product - and it's a disaster.

You only have to read through various threads on MSE to see how greedy some people are when there's a bargain to be had - instead of just having a few of something - they try to have as much as they can carry.

Which ultimately spoils it for others who only want a couple of the item and/or to use a few coupons.

If you can get away with trying to get all of your shopping for next to nothing then good for you. It's one in the eye to Tesco (who seem to be trying to take over the grocery world anyway, and with whom I have ceased shopping with long ago due to the state of my local store...)

Bur if you can't - then you really have nothing to complain about. They are in business to SELL you the goods - not give them away.
