You only have to read through various threads on MSE to see how greedy some people are when there's a bargain to be had - instead of just having a few of something - they try to have as much as they can carry.
Which ultimately spoils it for others who only want a couple of the item and/or to use a few coupons.
If you can get away with trying to get all of your shopping for next to nothing then good for you. It's one in the eye to Tesco (who seem to be trying to take over the grocery world anyway, and with whom I have ceased shopping with long ago due to the state of my local store...)
Bur if you can't - then you really have nothing to complain about. They are in business to SELL you the goods - not give them away.
Agree with above. I know this site is about money saving but sometimes greed seems to take over. What concerns me is that if Tesco or anyone company get too many complaints they will just change their policy and impose more rigid rules for everyone. We have seen it happen before and no doubt will again.0 -
Unfortunately the mentality of some people is that Tesco MUST be punished and that it is our duty to exploit them as much as possible. As said already, such selfish behaviour simply spoils it for everyone else.0

i have just started using money off coupons in Tesco stores, so the first time i asked one of the till supervisors if i was correct in thinking 1 coupon per transaction if i was not buying the item and was told yes. since then i have no problems with just handing one coupon over each time and it is accepted regardless of the amount, since i buy bread, milk and fresh fruit and veg a couple of times a week, i feel pleased if i can save maybe £3-£5 over the weeks shoppingADOPT DONT SHOP......🐕🐕🐕🐕0

It seems to me very simple that all we need is a national policy - that cannot be altered at store manager's discretion. This seems to be where the confusion arises.
After much grief (when using a few coupons) a few months ago I was put off using coupons but still collected them. As such I now have quite a few which I'd like to use...but am happy to accept any quotas, so long as they are standard.
I've got my problem sorted at one store now, but I'd like to know I can go to any store and not face coupon use grief, so for this reason I'm pursuing my request/enquiry/complaint with head office. The standard "policy" that is sent out is, it seems, not clear enough for some tesco staff to understand (apart from the fact they have probably been told different to start with). The wording could be improved and there are other questions that need to be addressed (ie can the store use discretion or not).
All I'm after is a letter that cannot be argued with.... but as confusion reigns it is incredibly difficult to get anything but the standard (open to some interpretation) blurb. I've simply asked that a few points be clarified and I hope to hear tomorrow.
Unfortunately just as the coupon policy is not standard across the board the same is true of the level of customer service. Just lately I've been on the receiving end of some of the very bad.0 -
If anyone thinks they have a complaint against Tesco - or any other store - which has not been addressed through the cmplaints procedure - there's always Trading Standards.0

MoneySavingExpert is all about screwing the system. If you prefer to be sanctimonious and sit on your high horse, this may not be the best forum for you
Tesco screw customers every day of the week by overcharging them, and get away with it because most people don't even check their receipts. We're all about consumer revenge, here

The same applies here, if there ways to use and abuse the system people will - and I will continue to do so and use these coupons becuase they will allow me to do so (Their policy). Tesco screws us, and we screw them back. But do you know that Tesco also screw - the suppliers, and they will big time if things go wrong. I am not talking about a slap on the wrists either. Its a tough world out there and we all will do what we have to do to save cash and get freebies.
Trading Standards is another option - "but" they need a number of complaints from a area before they look into the issue.

In full agreement with thepearce.
Further back in this thread, I posted Tesco's response when I asked them to clarify their position on coupons.

Nowhere on there does it say this is at the managers discretion...except in relation to internet coupons. If it did, then I would abide by the managers discretion if the manager cared to divulge what he'd discressed for all consumers to see. It does say you can purchase your entire shop with coupons. Tesco know people do this as its easy to work out from the receipt. When I have asked custmer service staff in store to ring head office to clarify their position on coupons (after they have refused my use of coupons), the CS staff normally back down after the phone call as HO seem to agree with their email that I present to them when my coupon isn't allowed.
Incidentally...the last time this happened was over the use of 1 coupon where I hadn't bought the product.
If they told the consumers what they wanted, fixed the tills to make this happen and let the staff know too, none of these coupon threads would be happening.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

hi
any news on a reply from tesco ? can't beleive its taking so long,0 -
Can I just say this to all of you, you don't only risk yourself "obtaining goods by deception"... But you risk the job of the cashire.
When I've been one of the managers along the checkouts, you'll find the cashire is happy to run through coupons (mainly because they know its nice to have a few quid off) and rarely second guess however I've seen people pulled of the checkouts and given a final warning for running through invalid coupons.
..Infact it happend the other day to a friend of mine, he now only has his job by the skin of his teeth. I understand that everyone wants a good deal but your taking the !!!!!!. You damage sales, companies then stop offering certain promotions etc etc..
Its really a vicious circle....0
