I'm in contact with OFCOM too, but to be honest they dont seem to have much clout, just kept saying if it's in their T&C then I cant do much about it, initially CPW said they hadn't got the letter...lies..... they couldn't give me my PAC coz they need 30 days notice, rang CPW Monday and they said the PAC would be generated Tuesday, rang today and they said from the notes it should have been issues Tuesday, they will get right on it and issue it today....I'M STILL WAITING...... Loosers:mad:

OFCOM do have the clout available. Yet too often they fail to use it. They simply must intervene here and it must be easy and clear to end a contract.

CPW's terms on this are scant at best and therefore they could not realistically stop anyone from demanding to end their contract on the last day of the last month of the initial term.

As I see it, there's nothing to stop anyone from writing to CPW at any point during the initial term, and telling CPW that the contract must end on the last day of the last month of the prime period. There should be no need for any consumer to do anything more. There is absolutely no necessity for DRN's or whatever they call them and it ought not to be necessary to acquire a DRN and then have to write to CPW for them to invoke it. They are acting anti-competitively and they are unscrupulous in employing these frustrating tactics and they have to be made to stop it.
  • If you cancel your Direct Debit what happens?
I guess you will loose your number but will they do anything else?

So long as you have paid up to the natural end of the contract I cannot see how they can do anything. Personally I never bother about retaining the number.

However, if you did want to retain the number the best way to do it is often to tell the service provider that you want to convert it to pay as you go.

Don't do that - mobile contracts are a minimum period (eg 12 months) - unless CPW agree that your contract has ended, then they will see you as on contract. As a result, cancelling your DD will lead to arrears which will be recorded on your credit file. Not saying that it should happen this way, but it will happen.

I think that the deal stated earlier (£360 cashback - effectively 13 months free) is an 18 month contract as a number of people have been offered it recently.

    Yes, that's a fair comment.

I'm also in contact with Ofcom and just realise that they also had promised to get back to me within 48 hours which has now expired..never mind.

Well, I may have a success story to report. After a couple of hours yesterday CPW actually phoned me back and gave me a PAC code! I was so shocked I almost had to have a lie down. I asked whether they agreed that the new contract was rejected but they said that was a different system, but not to worry as if the system allowed a PAC to be generated all must be clear...

The only appeared to help me once I mentioned that I had used special delivery for my correspondence and that I could prove and show a signature of the person who accepted the letter at CPW. I also , incidentally, used the London registered address not the Southampton one.

So off to high street today to see if I can get something nice...

Good luck to the rest of you, I hope you all get a good result as well. I'll report back if I hear anything else.

It could also be a 12 month contract. In fact I think it is a 12 month contract because I was once offered this and so have many others on here.
  • It is 12 months.

I spoke to someone today regarding disconnecting mine.

The address was the Southampton's one (Post code SO30 2NR)

When i asked him about the Disconnection Code - he said i didn't need one and that to just send a one liner with the usual details (contract no, phone no etc).

He did offer me £300 plus of credit but i turned it down and he WASN'T at all bothered.

Should i be bothered about not having a DNR?

    Should i ring back?
