    Wow markymoo-what can I say-apart from :T :A :beer:

    I think Heathrow looks the best bet-maybe with Americam Airlines dirct.

    I really have no idea where to stay- aprt from being fairly central. We really like walking and watching.

    I'm going to check out your guide too.

    bear in mind being fairly central might sound good, but it is notoriously noisier, and the subways are quick and efficient. Manhattan is a big island, but also very easy to get around. Think about what you are going to do, and bear in mind that all you'll probably use your hotel for is showering, sleeping, and maybe a bite to eat at breakfast!!!

    also, if you stay in the smaller village areas like greenwich, soho, tribeca, murray hill, etc etc, you'll find better quality of restaurants.

    We went last November and stayed in an apartment on 81st and West End. It was in a lovely neighborhood, 2 blocks from Central Park ( we had lovely weather and went to the park nearly every day!!) I think it cost about $150.00 per day and it was lovely. I will try to find the e-mail address tonight and pm you.

    seems like the prices have crept up over night.. i can't find the prices i've quoted again.. dammit!

    I've found this and although it goes a day early and returns early it may suit us better. We have to be in London on 20th-so we could stay o/night and travel into London by train.

    Now all I need is a hotel and parking near the airport. I bet there's another site on here that will help.

    hello! first time user, long time reader

    I've got some leave left until the end of january, so I'm looking for places to go. I can't go anywhere until after November 30th (or possibly taking a half day on Nov 29) and have to be back in london on Dec 9th/early morning on 10th. I was thinking of going to new york but the cheapest I can find is £229 from gatwick. I live near to heathrow so that would be ideal. But I don't think I'm going to find anything cheaper. I've never been to NYC and have to convince my sister it's worth the cash...so shall I go to NYC or go to dresden instead?? Any help/opinions appreciated!

    to be honest... £229 is a good flight price (flyzoom by any chance?)

    november / december is a more expensive time to travel to NYC as a lot of people go.. so double check hotel reservations before you book your flight..
