    Netgear > Router Status:

    DownStream Connection Speed 2272 kbps
    UpStream Connection Speed288 kbps

This 2272 - is this kbyte or kbits (units)? It differs to the speedtest anyhow
Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
    Blackadder: Yes it is.
    Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.

So you have been changed from a 1Mb to a 2Mb connection, not up to 8Mb.

If you call 0800 2796771 option one, request a 'mac code' they will transfer you to the relevant department, explain your friend gets 8mb and free call package for £9.99 and you aren't happy at paying more. should be straight forward after that.

This number doesn't seem to work any more - does anyone have a current free/ 01 number?
    Thanks

    It's only a game

I do not have a broadband conection, but am thinking of changing from dialup. How should I go about getting this sort of discount as a possible new customer?

I don't think you'll be able to. They normally offer this price to customers who call them up and threaten to leave after already having broadband for a year. The best you'll get is probably £24.99 if you provide your own router.

Or £19.99 including wireless router and Dell laptop if you want to sign up for two years here.

I've recently just got AOL broadband and pay £14.99 per month for 2mb.

    Hiya

I rang on Saturday and asked if i had a contract end date (i knew i hadn't) as i was considering moving to the Sky package as i already have the tv and wanted to know if i needed to give AOL notice and straight away they said we will match Sky...8MBs for 9.99 a month instead of 24.99...AND no end date either, i specifically asked if it was a limited offer and she said no...im a happy bunny :o

Did they make you take the AOL Talk (phone call) package with this?. I'm still paying £14.99 for the 1MB service and am out of contract so am getting ready to do some haggling.

I am sure they can put the price up at some point in the future if they want.
