I'm not sure why CitiCard said no, but they are definitely liable under s75 of the Consumer Credit Act as long as the supplier is a UK company (which most ISPs are). I shouldn't treat this as a reason not to use them - and I certainly shouldn't treat it as a reason not to claim from them if this circumstance does arise.

The only exception (apart from non-UK companies) would be if the amount involved is under £100 - but presumably it is >£100 if you are paying for 2 years in advance.

This is what other people have been saying but CitiCard were quite adamant that they would not be liable, whereas M&S Money and Natwest both said they would lookinto it, but neither of them said YES, they would refund.

I had no problems getting a pro-rata refund from Halifax a couple of years ago, when an ISP ceased service about 8 months into an 18 month pre-paid contract.

Not quite the right place, but put it on cashback credit card discussion and the thread seems to have died. I'm a Newbie though!

I have just got the Amex Blue card and the Citibank one following the advice Martin gave. I am going on a holiday of a life time with my daughter, haven't had a holiday for years....Very soon we have to pay for it hence I am anxious to get some good advise from someone out there!

Is it better to pay by the Blue card bearing in mind the travel agent takes 2% or should I pay with my debit card?

Also do you think I should try and get the card whose name escapes me that everyone says on here you should take abroad? We are going to Thailand by the way

Martin says there is no such thing as a silly question! And Maths was never my best subject, getting better moneywise thanks to these forums. Cheers!
The £2.00 Savers Club = £130.00 (Started Feb.06 -saving for a dream - to visit Thailand again!)

Are you getting any cashback from Amex? You need to work out if whatever amount of cashback you get is going to be greater than 2% (I would have thought this unlikely). Assuming it isnt then I'd pay with a debit card.
No idea what Amex Blue offers  as I've never bothered to get one given their limited acceptance.

The best cards for spending overseas are Nationwide BSoc cards, either the Classic Card or the Red Nose Day card both of which offer up to 56 days interest free and more importantly no forex loading.
The cashback card offers only up to 46 days interest free but you don't earn cashback on forex purchases :( so no real advantage in getting this card over the other two for forex spending.

OK, for all those that have been following this thread, despite the misleading website link on the CitiCards website. I can now and to all those that have CONFIRMED that CitiCards don't offer cashback on this card.

Despite having called their callcenter 3 times and being told that it is a Cashback card. When I called to activate my card today I once again asked for confirmation and eventually told that there wasn't any cashback on this card. So I asked to cancel. Eventually I was put through to an English supervisor who confirmed that there was no cashback for this card and canceled it. He also apologized for the confusion and said that the marketing department had been told about this before. I don't think they care about what they advertise as long as they get your business.

AVOID unless you like companies that lie about their products!

Although you have obviously been messed about, it is possible to get a Citibank Platinum cashback card - I am a living example. Last month I spent £320 and got £3.20 cashback.

I'm wanting to take out one of these cards, but I am very concerned after reading all the negative posts.

Is it just 'pot luck' whether you actually get the correct cashback card (Even when signing up for it) ??

Is there anyway to tell for sure before using the card - Or is it a case of waiting for a statement to arrive showing cashback ??

    Thanks again
    Daniel
