And over on micky Bing seaerch - "phones4u problems" gets over 45000 results whilst "mobiles.co.uk problems" gets 33000.

So conclusion - DONT USE SEARCH ENGINES FOR A THESIS.

And silk if you do the search for "phones4u problems" you get 11400.

Maybe so which is still 7,000 less than mobiles.co.uk and an awful lot more than mobiles2yourdoor whci is why we opted with mobiles2yourdoor to go with! along with the feedback on here too ;)

On the basis of how many results a search engine produces, you conclude that one site is better than another. Have you considered that one retailer might be more busy than another and has more sales and hence likely to have more problems.

Again - am not defending mobiles.co.uk - in fact I have only used phones4u companies for last 4 years (from memory). Saying that I recall having a 12 month free motorola L6 (in 2007) and for the life of me cannot remember if I got that from carphonewarehouse web site.

Anyway - making assumptions based search engines counts is not proof of what is or is not bad.

You did not opt for mobiles2yourdoor - you chose mobiles.co.uk first and then decided to cancel the order and in doing so made a whole lot of fuss on these forums, declaring war and threatening courts - and in end seems to have got away with a profit of £50.

Yes, but when a good number of these posts are actually positive and not actually "mobiles.co.uk problems", but problems in the same page as mobiles.co.uk and not related to them or even "I had no problems with mobiles.co.uk", then you can't really use the number of posts as any useful stats whatsoever. As said above, it could be that they have more business than M2YD.

But you did say tongue in cheek I suppose.

    Oh what fun !

Nice bit you've tagged on ther Oneaday ;)
First of all yes my partner did choose mobiles.co.uk in the first instance and lived to regret it as everyone has seen !
The mistake was made because she didn't research the company first !
I did not make a fuss at all to start with the discussion was the length of time of trying to get through on the phones if you remember !
I spent 2 days on the phone to them trying to get them to change a faulty phone
Those 2 days and over 6 hours of phone calls resulted in a total waste of time so in the end I cancelled the contract
To be honest i was being more than fair to them.
How the h*ll you can think I have made a profit after 2 days off work and probably about £80 in expences of phone call related and postage etc is beyond me
I haven't declared war as you put it, if I did it wouldn't be just making posts on here so that other members can see whats gone on ;)

By the way today was the 28th day since the 13th that Ben said compensation had been sorted and to allow 28 days.
well have been told that post has arrived and guess what no cheque !

Just exactly what did you expect me to do send my OH to NY with no phone and just accept the fact that they had sent a faulty phone that couldn't be used ....pathetic
It's not just about the money
  • I thought you were remarkably patient and courteous to the rep in the early days (actually weeks now). I was amazed at the time and effort you put in calmly during that time in an attempt to sort things out on here when all normal channels had failed. I am also amazed at how much flack people get for posting bad experiences with this company - and how much leeway the rep and company get when they repeatedly fail to do what they say and fail on virtually all fronts. But, that's just me!

Ok Silk - no retailer can pay you for staying at home - I lost several hours trying to get through to dialaphone and Three in 2007 (whilst at work). The business with your OH going to NY is irrelevant too.

Why not just go down the route of consumer direct and lodge a complaint - thats what I would do if they are not paying out the £50 compensation now.

I suspect it is not the £50 Silk is concerned with. And the consequences of a dealer not doing what they say they will (repeatedly) and making false promises is very much relevant to the way he feels now. The rep made promise after promise - none of which were fullfilled - and proceeded to lie about the phone calls which were never made (bar the first to Silk's OH which is not in dispute).

When a dealer makes big noises about itself and resorts to coming onto this site to put up a much better front than it is getting from a large number of its customers through normal channels (resulting in some of them finding their way onto this site to publicise their promblems) it rubs salt in the wound. Those without a wound can choose not to empathise but can hardly criticise someone who has been publicly treated in this way rather than the company providing the treatment!

As we all know, Consumer Direct is generally a waste of more time and effort. I would never use them.

I would be even more amazed by the company if the £50 never turns up - but I am sure it is somewhat irrelevant to Silk as it would be to me. The whole point to me is that the company does not fulfill its promises, lies specifically when cornered, misdirects people's attention and ignores its own t&c whenever it chooses - just like every other cpw clone in recent years. If it does that in public would you really trust them in private, as most of its customers have to do?

mobilejunkie, you seem to find any method to attack this rep or mobiles.co.uk and in doing so confusing the issue.

I do not know what Silk wants but he is owed the compensation - the rep did say he could not do anything.

As I read the threads - it became clear that either the rep was getting wound up or he just had given up - arguing the case for his company and in doing so making it worse.

I do not know what you base your statement Consumer Direct are a waste of time - previously you have said Ofcom are waste of time (somewhere) - ok all of these organisations are a waste of time.

So what can people who find themselves in trouble with a company do? Just go on forums and hope things will get sorted?

I have - and generally they are.

Going on forums doesn't get things sorted in general, but can on occasion. What it does do is give feedback about companies from people who actually use them. That is why I spent a good year or more reading this one and others before I EVER took out ANY mobile contract. I didn't join or post; I simply read and followed every day. I rarely ask questions but can get useful answers when I do. I also read a lot of misinformation and try to put that right - in a number of areas (hence my guide) including the rep's responses. When any rep or company comes on here it's usually in a desperate attempt to paint a nice little picture of themselves since it isn't happening in reality. IF this rep had come on here, owned up to the FACT that it DOESN'T keep to it's own t&c, promised to do all he could to put that right and actually help others rather than mainly SAYING he was I would be impressed. However, that is NOT what they have done. Instead there has been a long list of incorrect assertions (mild description), reversals of previous statements, loads of false promises (along with a handful possibly of ones which were followed through) and numerous attempts to shut people like me - who HAVE direct experience of them - up.

Generally, if I don't get my money I threaten to sue and then sue. I do not mess around playing the kind of games dealers use to divert and delay and fob their customers off. That is what I see the rep doing (not entirely, but certainly in the main).
