I've looked at the posts on here over the last few weeks and gave Orange a call today to see what offers i could get, selecting the option to leave orange. Have had a contract with orange for past 3 years, have never upgraded phone since i started and never re-newed my contract.

    Currently i spend £35 a month
    500 x netowork mins and 100 texts (£30)- and 3mb usage for internet (£5)

I told her that had seen offers from 3 and T-Mobile between £15 and £25, and might also just go for pay as you go.Ideally am looking for 800 mins with 300 texts or so. Neither of these packs from 3 or t mobile included the N85, which she picked up on.

The best she said she could offer was
    700 mins, 300 texts for £24 a month
£15 for nokia N85, and £5 a month for unlimited internet access.

I did say was looking for something better, but was told that was the best she could offer. I didn't ask if it was 12 or 18 month contract which i should have. I requested for the PAC code and she said it will be sent out.

To be honest seeing some of the deals ppl have got on here i was very disappointed. Is there something more i should have said, or does it make a differnce if i actually ask to cancel the contract, give 30 days notice - rather than just ask for pac code, which i did.

Would really appreciate if anyone could give me any advice.

    Thanks,
    Will

I'm like you been watching this for a few weeks, contract is up on 4th June and not had call from orange usually have by now, I'm on dolphin 30 think, and pay £8 for unlimited internet and £5 insurance - bills have been approx 50-75 since I took contract out, and I'm scared to phone them up to be honest!!!

Is worth just calling them, but you need to be prepared as to what phone you want, and which deals you've seen else where - which i sort of quoted, but felt quite stupid as the agent had all this information.

Am not sure about if theres a difference between asking for a pac and asking to cancel orange contract. Maybe if i asked to cancel contract theres another department who deals with that in particular.and maybe they can give better deal. But yes, any advice would be great if anyone could help.

    Part of the Furniture
Called up just now and spoke to a lovely girl who offered me...

    Nokia 5800
    400mins
    Unlimited texts
    Unlimited Net
    £19.50 a month.

I'm pretty pleased with that! I actually have to call back on Friday to sort it out, as that's when the 2 years worth of free music downloads is released on Orange so i'll get that too!

I might be really cheeky, and when I call on Friday try and get 600 mins :p

Londondawg - that doesn't seem very good to me. It took 3 phone calls to get ours and every time it was a bit better, try again.

I've always found doing your homework on competitors and tariffs helps. Get a list of 3 phones, at least one which orange don't do and find comparable tariffs to what you want. Request your pac code with the reason you're shopping about and haven't decided but want to be able to move immediately when you find the right deal and wait until a week before it expires. Then call and be nice. Don't tell them what you want. Advise them what you've found elsewhere (only one deal - the one you would most likely move to) using the phone they don't do as your example. Put them in the advisory role and make them feel important. Sales people are taught to control the situation and like to be listened to, but you are the buyer, so play the game and 90% of the time you'll get what you want. Ask them to recommend a similar phone when they tell you they don't do that one - they'll likely give you one of the other two on your list. stage one complete. you have them onside, some small talk has occurred and you have built a relationship. stage two is now about hammering down the cost. this is where your research on competitors tariffs now comes in. ask what your av usage has been, what tariff would they recommend based on it etc etc. ask for both 18 and 24 month options 'if it isn't too much trouble for them' Tip. National companies have deals with operators which offer their staff and sometimes family or friends up to 30% off monthly tariffs. with o2 these normally exclude xda, iphone, sim only deals so you could use this as a bargaining tool on a later call if your first call isn't successful.

Last time i upgraded i made one call, was on the phone for over half an hour but got what i wanted.

HTC are you saying that the best deal is 30 % off? People on this thread are getting 50% and some more.

The Comes With Music tariffs are different, and the above combination is not one of them. You should be aware that you may not be offered the same thing on Friday. No one can be sure how flexible they will be until they are officially released.

HTC are you saying that the best deal is 30 % off? People on this thread are getting 50% and some more.

not at all. i got approx 60% off the advertised cost of my package and my o/h over 50%. I had this option with o2 and i did mention it at the start as did my o/h the other week. again we mentioned a phone orange didn't do. combined they make a statement that you are prepared to move for what you want, at a price you can live with. it's not about picking one thing and concentrating on that - (that gives you no room to negotiate). I buy for a living so always look for multiple areas to target to make my case to the seller that I believe i'm getting a better deal elsewhere but i always make the seller believe they are leading me. If you don't make them believe they are in charge they'll just think they are wasting their time and wasting time doesn't earn them commission...!! By taking something that isn't maybe top of your list (not that they'll know that actually the 2nd phone on your list is the one you really wanted in the first place) you create a bargaining opportunity. so orange are put in position of a phone they can't do at an already good price so they need to do something better if they want to keep you. example based on my o/h the other week

she went in with info on
o2 24month tariff with htc pro 30% off
    600mins, 1000txts, unlimited internet usually £29.38, now £20.56
Now o2 has free voicemail, mms are included as are sms sent from abroad in your normal sms allowance. (another bargaining chip if you send lots of mms or txts from abroad)

she asked what he would suggest, made a play about reservations about moving away from a phone with a qwerty keypad (tytn2) and what his thoughts were vs a pure touchscreen. she acted all sold on his response.

by end of call they agree 24 month htc touch3g (what she wanted) - free
400 mins (no need for more as magic numbers keep bringing this down), unlim txts, 500mb internet, 4gb sd card, keep magic numbers for £14.67 a month. online price £25ish, but further £10 saving on what she was paying. Saving £480 over 2 years. Not bad in my book!!!

HTC by the time a thread reaches 81 pages there is usually not a technique that hasn't been covered. However always nice to have a reminder of a technique that is what MSE is so good for. I have saved an absolute fortune ( also bought somethings I wouldn't otherwise, but that is my problem!). Good deal the HTC and fairly typical of deals on here for people with band 3 and above usage.
