does anyone have any opinions on what are the supermarket value products worth using or are terrible and should be missed?? would be greatly apreciated......trying to hugely cut back on shopping budget and buy value but there are obviously so many it'll take me ages to do by myself!!!

    Tinned custard I like
    tinned peas
    oven chips
    bananas
They used to do a good sunflower margarine but I can't get that anymore and the other margarine is only good for cooking.

  • Asda's own products are very good.
Their fresh orange juice is the best ive ever tasted!
Its all about trial and error and the great thing about asda is if you are not happy they will refund it if you are not happy, in the past tesco have been less than helpful with refunds.
    That mrs macchicken to you!

    Tesco Value I use:

    Toothpaste
    Toilet Rolls
Crisps (most value crisps are yuk but these are ok)
    Baked Beans/Mussy Peas/Chopped Tomatoes
Washing Powder (not much smell but washes OK)
    Bleach
    Pasta
Carrots (odd sizes but taste the same)
    Orrange Squash
    Tinned Custard (luurvley)
    Yogurts/mousses
    Kitchen Towel
Washing up gloves (last as long a marigold's)
Breakfast ceriel (used to be a bit iffy, much better now)
    Bread/Rolls
    Shampoo/Shower Gel (for kidz)
    Biscuits/penguin type things

About 70% of my basket is value products. Look out for things they don't do in their own value range but have a misc brand that changes cos they get it in cheap, eg: mince and corned beef. It really does make a difference to your basket total and my kidz havn't noticed the difference on most things.

It would take me too long to list what I do buy, especially as I shop at Sainsbury's, Safeway/Morrison, Tesco AND Asda!

I have tried most ranges and nearly everything has been OK, but I don't like economy sweetcorn, soap powder or teabags. That's just personal preference, other people seem happy with them.

I like Asda's range because it's so wide. Other shops only offer economy orange juice, Asda offers economy orange, apple or pineapple!

I think it depends which shop you use. There's quite a bit of Asda cheapie I don't like but alsmost all of Tesco's is OK (for me). I'm with Judi there's so much blue, red and white packaging in my cupboard it look like the union jack ;D

I get most of the stuff Judi mentioned ;D
Useful to know that if you get the value eggs and the value meat, especially pork chops, you often get better than the 'standard' range. The value eggs are a mixture of sizes, ive had some whoppers in there, and the same for the chops, they are the ones which have got cut a bit wonky. Also the value streaky bacon is great if you grill it until its crunchy all over - the kids love it as an occasional treat!
My daughter could probably live on the value noodles ::)
