Too many spiders

I hope this is the right place to post this message.
Spiders dont REALLY bother me, I usually leave them, unless they are pretty big. And I appreciate they have to live somewhere, and its getting cold outside now. Caring, huh?
However, everywhere I turn at the moment, there is another one. They are mostly fairly small, but we have recently had two UNNATURALLY large ones,(too big for the wine glass we usually use to catch them in). One of them actually fell off the ceiling and THUDDED as it hit the floor. Ugh!
I figure that pretty soon the "fairly small"ones are going to become gigantic too.
I plan on going round and catching them all this weekend, but how do you discourage spiders from coming back (short of hoovering them up)?
But, please dont tell me that the best way to discourage them from coming back is by saying "dont come back" when you put them outside, as I already do that.

Ugh, then there's more to clean up!
Also did you read the bit about "caring"????? :rotfl:Threadhead0 -
I ignored it, i thought it must have been a typo as i couldn't beleive somebody cares about spiders.
Where do they go in winter though?0 -
I throw mine near my next door neighbour's house in the hope that they will take the nearest available shelter0

Mostly it's a case of barring access - such as proper draught seals round doors and windows, possibly fitting fine mesh screens over windows and air vents and, of course, doing things that don't encourage their prey in - such as leaving food around.
The google link below might help - but DO NOT go there unless you are comfortable with spiders.

I followed that link and the second spider mentioned is the Brown Recluse. My DS was bitten by one of these a few months ago when he was on a business trip to San Diego (He lives in US). It's quite a nasty one and it can take two years for the venom to completely leave your system. Yuk. Glad we don't have them here.
But we have millions of the blighters here. Everything from tiny little red ones of massive big black ones. Is there something about placing conkers in a room to keep them out .... or have I got it wrong?0 -
This is not necessarily a 'caring' suggestion, but I do belong to those people who care for spiders as long as they don't spin their darned nets in and around my house and garage!
Mix equal parts of baking soda and icing sugar and 'serve' this mixture in a small dish to your spiders. They'll love it, and thank you with not coming back.0 -
Hey
Thought Id share this with you...lol
OH was in the toilet this morning reading his papernext minute I heard alot of bad swearing(wot the ****, die bas**** die, you big bas**** etc etc-along with loud banging
) im thinking-what the hell is he doing on there..lol...anyways he comes out quite quickly..still swearing...and showing me this tarantula(medium size spider to you or me..lol) in a piece of tissue!! He told me that he was sat on the bog minding his own business and this tarantula crawled under the door and ran straight at him :rotfl: I nearly peed myself laughing
Husband said "lucky i was sitting on the toilet as I nearly shat myself"
I couldnt believe he had made so much fuss over a spider and it wasnt that big but was very black and hairy though  He doesnt normally swear much either, but think he has made up for the last few years in a matter of minutes
